In a surprise, given this came largely out of nowhere, it was announced today that Kevin Owens will face Roman Reigns for the Universal title as the main event of the final WWE PPV of 2016, Roadblock, which takes place on December 18th at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA.

The surprise is that no angle has been shot for the match, and usually PPV main events aren't announced until after the angle is already shot. Plus there are two PPVs before this show takes place. Starting with the Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg match, the company has started announcing PPV main events before the prior PPV takes place, likely because UFC has been successful announcing matches well ahead of time.

We had reported yesterday that Owens vs. Reigns was going to be the new championship direction in December, but that information related to plans for house shows, which also changes by the week.

It's also notable since coming off the * in a Cell PPV, and how it was worked, it would have appeared that there would be an Owens vs. Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho program prior to the eventual Reigns program, which was always the direction, but not expected this quickly.

 

Give it six months and Cruiserweights will be exclusive to main event and superstars. While the 205 idea could be good the fact it's airing live on Tueday nights straight after Smackdown doesn't make sense whatsoever.

 

Apparently Jericho and Sin Cara had a backstage fight on the overseas tour.

Wrestlezone’s own Justin LaBar noted moments ago via Twitter that a fight broke out in the WWE locker room during the ongoing international tour. We are hearing from multiple sources the scuffle involved veteran star Chris Jericho and Sin Cara, who would end up being a repeat offender in backstage incidents this year.


We reported back in July that Sin Cara got into it in catering at a WWE Smackdown television taping with Simon Gotch of the Vaudevillians tag team. Of course Jericho is no stranger to backstage drama, as it was widely noted that he and Brock Lesnar almost got into a brawl at WWE SummerSlam due to the confusion surrounding the finish of Lesnar’s match with Randy Orton, where he reportedly busted him open with legitimate, repeated forearm shots to the head.


While we don’t know exactly why the fight broke out, or who is at fault, this obvious doesn’t look good for Sin Cara. Getting away with a backstage incident with a newcomer like Gotch is a bit different than going at it with an active legend in a main event role on TV, that has support from virtually every name that matters backstage. The Raw brand will be in Glasgow, Scotland tomorrow followed by a Smackdown Live taping in the same city the following night.

Confirmed for tonight's show is more Survivor Series participants and it looks like we will get WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins and WWE United States Champion Roman Reigns in the main event.

* Who will be the final member of the Raw Men’s team at Survivor Series?

* Which Superstars will The New Day and Charlotte Flair lead into battle?

* Did The Brian Kendrick light a fire inside TJ Perkins?

 

We reported at various points this morning that a fight broke out between Chris Jericho and Sin Cara while backstage over the weekend at a Live Event in England. We noted earlier that one first-hand account says Sin Cara struck first and Jericho answered the attack by biting the cruiserweight until the two were separated.

According to Dave Meltzer the incident happened while the RAW crew was traveling from Leeds, England to Glasgow, Scotland for tonight's RAW. Cara was reportedly kicked off the bus the crew was traveling on.

Meltzer noted that Cara was making annoying noises while on the tour bus and while people were telling him to stop, he kept making the noises. This led to Jericho "more forcefully" telling Cara to stop. Cara reportedly told Jericho to "* off" and words were exchanged. Cara threw a wilds right hand at Jericho before others jumped in to break it up. Jericho then bit Cara's finger during the pull-apart. Cara was then kicked off the bus.
