Good job mate, hill running is superb and your obviously reaping the rewards, bet your speed on flat is through the roof :D

Did my 1RM test for deads today and well happy at results (KG's):

    80x5
    100x5
    112.5x5
    132.5x5
    152.5x5
    170x1
    175x1
    100x10 to finish up

Delighted with that, was working off a projected 1rm 159 to start with. Happy days, though went after work and not before like I normally do, so probably fuelled up.

    Bench test on Wednesday!

completely changed my weights routine for my back cause i didnt think i was working it completely. did that a couple of sessions ago so ive been tinkering with it since. so it was back day yesterday and i can say my back has never felt so sore, in a good way, the day after, can feel it all the way from where your lats meet your hips right up to my shoulder blades and into the traps. think im onto a winner here.

Find a club that teaches it, I do Muay Thai and I love it. I also do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu wich I also love, martial arts are the best thing I ever did.

You're still a young pup at 20, we had a 40 year old competing in his first fight last bank holiday weekend.

I'm going on holidays for 2 weeks on the 3rd of July and when I come back (17th of July) I need to be relatively fit. I'm really really unfit at the moment even though I look in shape.. I don't need to lose any weight. I probably just have a quick metabolism otherwise I'd be a fat *

anyway, my pre-season football training will be starting around about the 20th of July so I want to know is it possible to get relatively fit in 2 weeks from swimming alone ?

It depends how intense your swimming sessions are, its unlikely swimming alone will get you into shape in 2 weeks. If you want to make progress then swimming as well as running 4/5 times a week could get you in some sort of shape.

I'll honestly have all day every day available to swim for 2 weeks. If need be I'll run in the mornings aswell.

How intense and long would you suggest my swimming sessions would need to be to get me relatively fit ? As in... say... able to play a 25 min a side game of football?

Edit: It would also be worth mentioning I did swimming lessons (I already knew how to swim, as in they were lessons to get my swimming technique right and get me faster for competitions) for about 4 or 5 months so I know how to do the freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly. I hate doing the backstroke :56:

Well the aid of running if you have a heart monitor watch is you can keep to a pace where you are testing yourself at lets say 65% of your maximum heart rate, i don't personally swim a lot but for you to increase your fitness quickly you are going to have to push yourself.

50 mins in total for footy isn't too bad. So 4/5 times a week doing swimming/running with a day or two rest for two weeks should be enough i would say.

    I don't have a heart monitor watch though :icon_mrgreen:

How long would I need to be swimming for every day ?
I could do about five 15-25 minute sessions a day.. even more if need be.

5x 15-25 minute sessions wouldnt be half as effective as a solid hours swim. youd just start to get tired, which is when you improve your fitness, and then youd be stopping. but if its just for playing football then youd be better running and doing interval training.

How many people on here are trying to gain weight as opposed to get fit?

I'm really bored of my workouts now and trying to devise a new regime and schedule. The one problem I have though is I like to work my arms twice a week on their own, so say I only go 4 times a week that leaves me two days to try and fit: shoulders, back, chest & legs in. I'm paranoid about losing weight in my arms which is the reason I choose to do arms twice. I also found that i've gained more by doing triceps and biceps in the same workout as opposed to linking them with back/chest etc.

The other issue I have, is that where i'm linking say back and shoulders together i'm not doing enough for each one. There's about 5 back exercises I like and 6 shoulder exercises I like, but by linking the two i'm only doing 3/4 for each. Anyone any good at devising routines?

P.S. I want to get my traps massive.

Two sessions for shoulders, chest legs and back isn't enough, particularly if you want big traps. I've got a separate day for back alone so that I can work it properly, you'd have to do the same. Your bi/triceps are relatively small so you won't need to work them as much as other muscles in order to build them.

    But, just a thought:
    Day 1 - arms
    Day 2 - legs
    Day 3 - chest/shoulders
    Day 4 - back

    My last routine was:

    Monday - Back and Tri's
    Tuesday - Cardio
    Wednesday - Chest and Bi's
    Thursday - Cardio
    Friday - Shoulders and Leg's
Saturday - Freeday to do anything I want
    Sunday - Rest or football

If you pick something along those lines, you can do additional Arms on Saturday

I've been reading a few different articles on the internet and it's tough to filter out the bullshit.. but many of them say that swimming is one of the best ways to get fit for any sport.

5x 30 min swims a week for 2 weeks seems to be what's recommended to get you fit. A full hours swim might not be as effective as in the last 20 mins or so I'd be bolloxed and only going at a really slow pace.

    what do you reckon?

    Do back/tri's and chest/bi's.

Backs all pulling, triceps are all pushing. Time you've finished your back you'll still have plenty left in the tank to go heavy in your triceps.

And vice versa for chest and biceps.

So if you do four days a week something like this could work.

    Monday: Back/triceps
    Tuesday: Legs/chest/biceps
    Wedensday: Off
    Thursday: Off
    Friday: Back/triceps
    Saterday: Chest/biceps
