Your right about sqauts. I'm still going from when I started over 2 years ago, but my sqauts still very light. I can bench 130kg for 8 reps but squats.. nope. Its not even my legs, anything above 70kg and I feel intense pressure on my lower spine in one spot. So my sqauts stuck at a lowly 70kg :56: so I just try increase reps on squats instead of weight. Iv had issues with my lower back so when I feel something I don't ignore it.

Good bench them.weights your repping. Fair * to ya.

Squats are great but do them wrong you'll pay a heavy price. What about hack squats, they are easier on the back. You should try them instead because if your benching 130kg reps, 70kg squat isn't that great tbh.

I could go heavier but anything above 70kg and my lower back feels it on the exact spot I got a bad injury once. Iv not got leg presses or that because it's a garage gym with power cage, bench, and free weights. I actually have a we corner of space left I could look into getting a leg press but I'm currently skint getting my fake hair tattoo touched up :56: :56:

Was always about 60-65kg when I was 17-20 then started in the gym and bumped that up to a solid 70kg. Was hovering around there for ages.

Got a work from home job about a year ago and somehow over the past few months let myself shoot up to 82kg. Was very gradual that I barely noticed and got a shock when I weighed myself in my mates gaf. Noticed a proper bit of a belly on myself for the first time ever really and didn’t like it at all. Been proper focused on eating decent food, running and intermittent fasting the past month as I have a new footie season starting in a few weeks. In 4 weeks I’m down to 78kg, lost 1kg per week roughly. Buzzing with that. Targeting 75kg as I don’t want to start eating into the muscle I’ve worked hard to build up over the years.

Looking for some advice on training. My wife and some of my family are saying that "I'm too old to be going to the gym" and that "I could end up having a heart attack" etc.. I'm now 67, have kept myself reasonably fit all my life by playing football right up until I was 60 yrs (but had to stop due to osteoarthritis in my knees and hips) and I go to the gym two to three times a week. I like doing the weights and try the bikes (but even that does my knees in) and I can bench press 70 kg - 75 kg. I try to do all the machines as well. So, are there any older members on here who still work and what do people think re age and exercise (am I too old). Cheers

Mate I go to the gym and see people in their 60s and 70s all the time. You can't be too old to work out, maybe too unfit which happens if you stop working out in your 20s or 30s and hit your 60s

Being too old to workout is a complete myth. If you’re still fit and healthy feeling enough it’s perfectly safe to workout no matter your age and training your muscles in any positive way does have a lasting effect that can carry through a lifetime and help prevent some of the common issues you hear about.

Old guy who comes into my work every morning on the way to the gym is 77 and fit as a fiddle. I played basketball senior men against a 92 year old that we thought was 60s. Get it done pal, your never too old.

It was fukin hard going this morning 2 mile swim. ( 9am Saturday and Sunday)

Going for night swimming ( and doing the bike in the morning about 9ish )

Some times it hurts on my old body.

I had to admit (once again) that I need yoga as I'm constantly stiffer than a * star's love sausage. I cycle a lot and it makes me stiff as a board... and sometimes my left leg just tightens up really bad and I hobble instead of walking lol (I'm really stiff) - I've done the 30 day yoga routine twice now and on both occasions, my aches and pains have all but gone and I find that I can walk properly again (uber tight calf muscles and hamstrings lol)...

My issue is, I just find yoga incredibly boring (but very effective) and it's a chore for me to keep it going even though I know it's really helping...anyway - I bit the bullet and started again - I quite enjoyed day 1 to be honest and I'll see if I can keep it going daily as it is excellent for rigor mortis peeps like myself.

    Question
How do you peeps deal with the mental battle of boredom / an exercise becoming a chore?

    Day 2 tomorrow though!

Been eating * most of the weekend but still got a longer run in yesterday. Still under 83kg the now, probably won't get down to 80 in time for holiday (a week on Wednesday) like I wanted but a couple of inches off the waist and fitting into clothes I haven't for years so pretty happy.

Cheers man, hopefully get times down with losing weight and ankle healing up.
It's so easy done turning an unhealthy weekend into 2 or 3 days, so glad I'm working and not getting a bank holiday to get back into a routine or would probably have been same again.

    100%..

After a blowout I eat * and am a lazy *. * my whole sleep pattern and pretty healthy routine..

Best thing is to just get up and get out ASAP in the morning the first day you feel half normal :giggle1:. The longer I leave it, the more I don't wanna do it and the harder it gets..

I would give another piece of advice to anyone wanting to control their diets and it’s to watch who you surround yourself with. A lot of people will pressure you into bad habits via social events. Like say you go out for coffee and you end up being pressured into eating or drinking just because others are.

I know this because I was force fed certain type of foods, mainly processed while growing up. One of my parents was a control freak who didn’t give me a choice and would almost resort to violence when I refused a certain food which included junk food like chocolate and stuff. So I had to trash a lot of food in secret or otherwise I would have grown up pretty unhealthy.

Still get hung up that I used to be able to run these distances at 4.30-4.50ish paces pretty comfortably but that was a few years and stone ago now, plus I broke my ankle in April.
Need to accept this is the current reality but stay consistent and I'm sure I'll get better and fitter.

I can't do squats at all now, my feet just won't stay flat on the ground, Ive resorted to half squats with a dumbell swinging in front to keep my balance. Only a 8LB one though
