Hey... I hope as much as the next man that Bangura cuts the mustard, but we still should have spent money on a couple of CB's and use any change / loans / freebies to pick up a striker.

The striker was NOT our priority, so why * £2.5 million on an unproven one!?

I don't for a second think that Bocanegra or Goian are world-beaters. All I'm saying is that they have so-far looked better than what we have at present and they cost (relatively speaking) buttons!

    Yes, they have.

BUT... Izzy cost around £500k and Kayal around £1.2 million. Neither involved the size of fiscal gamble surrounding Bangura's transfer (which occurred at a time when CB's were the priority!).

Christ, I didn't know we were proposing a 4.5 million move for Diawara. With Hooper and Stokes, that money should've been considered elsewhere in the team. I'm glad the work permit didn't go through.

For that money, we could've signed an Upson or a Woodgate on a two year deal. Or even Scott Dann, who left Birmingham for 5m.

I still think carrying another 2 central defenders making it double figures would have been mental, if we had got rid of a few i bet we would have signed some but we didn't so we will have to make do for now.

2 mill seems to be the average price for a unproven striker with potential these days, hooper, stokes(slightly less), goodwillie, james vaughan, don wong ji, to name a few.

Is everyone forgetting that our defence was the best in thr SPL last year? Lenny thought to himself, the defence handled the campaign better than any other defenders in the league, he was getting Wilson in. He brought in Wanyama for CB and DM cover. He thought he was sorted.

Then, shock horror, two weeks before deadline day, our defence pull a shocker. He thinks to himself, that was pure pish, but surely just a blip. Then, shocker after shocker and time ran out.

I am almost certain Lenny made a gamble, and one we may have made ourselves, that our defence was good enough last year, has been strengthened and will bounce back to the same form. Window closes, no defence improvement. Izzy out for the half season. Mulgrew going out left and a hole that needs filled in defence appears. Wilson and Loovens didn't work. Maj and Loovens dosen't work.

If we had not had the injuries to Izzy and Wilson, I believe we would not be in this sorry position. I don't think Lenny * up by not buying defenders. Looking at it from last years form, it was not an area under intense scrutiny.

We all wanted a striker and a keeper.

Fed up hearing that a CB was the priority when it was not. Everytime people spoke about transfers on this very site, they wanted, in order, a keeper, striker then a CB.

In my opinion, a defence of Wilson - Wilson - Mulgrew - Izzaguire is a great defence and one you could feel comfortable with.

I do not believe that was down to our central defence. The main protagonists in securing the defensive record were Forster, Izaguirre, Mark Wilson, Kayal and Ledley, IMO.

A lot of last year's defensive record was down to the excellent work done by Ledley and Kayal in order to protect our defence, a defence which has been poor for years.

Everyone to a man was crying out for another CB.

and for a striker, the budget given to Lennon clearly didnt allow for both positions to be sorted when the board could easily, easily have sanctioned a couple million more

    Aye, a striker as well.

Those were the two positions that needed filling, well those and a 'keeper obviously.

Neglecting either of those positions spelled trouble, and look where we are now after inadequate investment in our defence.

Didn't Celtic have the best defensive record in the SPL last season?

    Anyway, you're overreacting.

    I would have two questions:

1.) Do you think it is acceptable that the net transfer spend of the club over the past 3 years is zero at a time when we have lost 3 in a row and been humilated in europe the last two years?

2.) Why do you not believe a business the size of celtic cannot comfortably run with a deficit of a few million until we start seeing success and the fans return?

Aye good one! Highlight the first paragraph, but not the one below it that explains why I think we had the 'best defensive record' but not the 'best defence'!!!

They failed every single one of their own set targets last year.

They have presided over a period of utter gloom.

They have severely mismanaged a great institution.

They need to be hounded at the AGM, and sort things out.

    Otherwise they need to go.

i think the board need to get a hard time and if desmond desmond fails again to show up at the agm when the huns are on 3 in a row and going for 4 in a row then questions need to be asked where are we going with this major shareholder who treats the fans with contempt by not facing the share holders at this difficult time for celtic . :47:

was talkin to a guy who runs a supporters club here in belfast, he was tellin me they had a q&a session in the lurgan csc couple months ago, lennon and lawell attended. well to cut a long story short it turned into a slagging match, fans slabbering about loovens and samaras. garry parker was also brought into when a fan shouted "what da * does garry parker know about management", lennons response was "he played under brian clough so knows more about football than you". Alot of serious questions need asked and answered like how the * have the huns won the league 3 seasons running, looking like 4, when theyve supposedly been on their knees. serious questions indeed

Anyone knows they will DODGE the questions regarding the team - They will fill the place with those fans who sit on their hands at games and accept any old pish. Peter Lawwell would give Alistair campbell a run for his money the amount of "Spin" that comes out of Parkhead. The joke about Jelavic has come back to bit Lawwell in the *....No doubt we will get were on a sound footing, Were Happy to finish 2nd each year as long as the balance sheet is fine and dandy. and "PRAVDA" (celtic view) will say onwards and upwards yawn yawn ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz. that will keep the gullible arm of our support happy.

The Celtic View has already started with it's predictable "keep the faith" stance in this week's edition, seen the headline on the front page.
