    Good post mate. :50:

There is definitely an element of the support who dislike him because of his Aberdeen playing days, including one regular poster from TC who is conspicuous by his absence tonight.

But I think there is also a new more radical section of younger fans who are desperate to play the Republican card.

Hope and sometimes outright desperation for success at Celtic has been replaced by expectation of it and this new 'oppressed minority' mentality.

I do and so do several moderators and no offence mate, we've been watching all threads, even ones we dont post in for years now and we see alot of this *.

You dont see the worst of it as we have been banning these bigots and removing their posts from public consumption. The amount of bile from supposedly "Celtic fans" is sickening to me and has led me and others to question why we are supporting Celtic. Yes, that bad.

Foe me it's not a religion issue. No one has ever mentioned his religion to me, whether they like him or dislike him. For me Strachan is just a very unlikeable individual, he doesn't generate any goodwill in a lot of people.

I don't recall religion ever being an issue for Venglos, Jansen or Barnes.

If we dont delete, it ends up in the papers and TC looks like it in support of such comments which is the furthest from the truth

Some comments arent deleted but are punished, it depends.

I know know you've seen the Stachan GTF threads after every bad match and all the non regulars come out of the woodwork to spout inaccurate *. These people were probably banned from other forums aswell

Respect is a two way thing. Some supporters feel, and IMO have reasonable cause to feel, that WGS does not respect the support.

Likewise his conduct in the media, which someone dismissed as being a daft reason, is at times inappropriate.

Good post...I can empathise with this. As a team we have definitely lost our way.

True and I've seen alot of fans and media take his comments out of context when he refers to the fans.

I've seen alot of respect from him towards the fans when he comments

See that oppressed minority thing. Its another case of people pretending they are from a generation or so back. The statistics show now Scottish catholics are socially identical to protestants in terms of income and class category apart from the pension age category. Young catholics Scots no longer have a social disadvantage according to the stats. The chip on shoulder has been past down the generations even after the problem has gone. I just have no time for it.

My own Irish descended family just got on with it several generatoins back and have been doing OK for 4 generations now. We never made a song and dance about our origins nor did we get much discrimination or dwell on what we did get. We didnt set ourselves apart and get a ghetto mentality, only marrying other catholics etc etc. We just got on with it, integrated and ignored the people of similar origin who formed negative chip on shoulder politically minded groups.

I think a lot of people like to think their 'lot' in life is down to discrimination but I know loads of catholics who got on well 2 or 3 generatoins back and most people had a hard time in those days not just catholics. People blame their own failings on this sometimes. Lastly, although there is some genuine bigotry, I do think many many tims are paraniod and hypersensitive, actually looking out for any possible percieved slights. Its a terrible mentatility to have but a lot of people just thrive on the victim thing. Its sad. It is a state of mind because other guys from the same background can live in Scotland without all this tribal victim feeling. Thank * my parents and grandparents had common sense and didnt go in for the 'this is us, that is them' type stone age thinking. Anyone who brings up children like that should recognise it for what it is - sectarianism in its broadest sense. It creats a sectarian mindset where they will think of one lot as us and another lot as them.

The problem with the perceived lack of respect towards fans is surely the fans fault for engrossing themselves in his media shenanigans as if he is talking to us? I understand it's our only regular avenue to his thoughts but the way the media treats him he's well within his rights to act the goat back.

It certainly isn't anything to do with his comments aimed at the support anyway, he couldn't garner to us any more if he tried. He even tip toes round the lack of attendance questions by talking about credit crunches and Christmas time apathy.
