EXCLUSIVE: Benfica are closing in on Ángel Di Maria deal, here we go soon! ⚪️

Negotiations at final stages — just final details are missing to get it sealed and it will happen in the next days if all goes to plan.

Contract until June 2024 accepted, waiting to sign.

For the past 15 years we tried to have a mix of experience and young talent. For instance in 2010 (last year of Di Maria with Benfica) we had the youngsters David Luiz, Fábio Coentrão, Ramires or Di Maria mixed with the more experienced Luisão, Pablo Aimar, Saviola and Tacuara Cardozo.

Looking at our potential 11 for next year for next year, we will have something like this:

GK - ? (29y Odysseas is the weakest link of the team and apparently we are trying to sign 24y Bento from Athletico Paranaense)
    RB - Alexander Bah, 25y
    CB - Otamendi, 35y
    CB - António Silva, 19y
LB - ? (Grimaldo left on a free and apparently we are trying to sign 19y Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar)
    CM - Orkun Kokcu, 22y
    CM - João Neves - 18y
    RM - Di Maria, 35y
    LM - Aursnes, 27y
    OM - Rafa Silva, 30y
    CF - Gonçalo Ramos, 22y

Other notable players include Morato (21y), Florentino Luís (23y), João Mário (30y), David Neres (26y), Gonçalo Guedes (on loan), Andreas Schjelderup (19y).

Overall pretty balanced, with 2 players clearly older (world champions Otamendi - who is the captain - and Di Maria), 2/3 players around 30 y old (Odysseas, João Mário and Rafa Silva) and the rest of the bunch still fairly young.

Next year is particularly important. CL will pay more in the subsequent season, Portugal will have 1 less qualification spot and looks like we are trying to blow Porto and Sporting out of the water. 2 CLs quarter finals in a row + big sales (Darwin and Enzo) allow us to spend a bit more as well.

And in 2025 the World Cup (club format) will include 12 European clubs. 4 past CL winners + 8 other clubs based on European performance. The competition will take place in the USA. I believe Benfica is well positioned to be part of the first edition of the tournament (strong European performances in recent years) but we need to keep up the level. So makes sense to go for a seasoned player who can gets us results from the get go from that standpoint as well.

Good to have this thread to see how normal teams strengthen their squads even when they done have record breaking profits and a brand new manager

Tottenham would be better accepting it and getting rid of him. Ange isn’t going to change his philosophy, and Harry Kane won’t suit playing as a lone striker in Ange’s system.

I’d like to see Kane doing it abroad to see how he gets on. Bayern just feels like the wrong fit to me though, dunno why.

Kane will fit fine within Ange's system IMO. The high press will remain, but they may set it up where one of the 8's pushes up alongside Kane and does a lot of the leg work. And although he'll obviously want Kane scoring goals as the focal point similar to Kyogo, he may adapt to allow Kane to drop deeper at times because Maddison is good at operating in and around the box, allowing them to switch positions when appropriate.

It's a misconception that he has to have a clone of Kyogo as striker. He played an older Tim Cahill as the 9 for Australia because that was the best option at the time.

I can’t see why Kane would want to leave the premier league when he’s so close to the scoring record.
Bayern want him but how much would a German title mean to him? Surely he wants to cement himself as english all time international and league scorer

If he goes to Bayern he'd have a great chance at winning the CL too. Spurs aren't winning a thing even if he stays there til he retires.
