Definitely fair play to him he want give a * about warming the bench as when he's tripling his wages and the chance to win some trophy and medals and training with better players.

Anyone that thinks he's going there because he thinks he can take Courtois spot is deluded:smiley-laughing002:

Bang on man, I agree. In footballing terms, it smacks of a lack of ambition. He should be wanting to play as much as possible.

I guarantee you, in his mind he's every bit as good as Courtois and simply hasn't been given the chance to show it yet. There are few guys playing at that level who don't think they're among the best in their position.

It's a winners mentality, which is why he's even in that position to begin with. There are a lot of guys you hear about who were uber talented footballers, but who never made it because they froze on the big stage. Guys like Begovic will have the mentality that he's coming in to challenge for the top spot.

There's not a * chance that he's moved there with a losers mentality. No way.

    It's a tough one.

Not saying he should have turned them down exactly but I'm just surprised how anyone can see the move as ambitious on his part. Obviously I don't begrudge the guy because it would be hard to turn down Chelsea - they're the champions and can more than double his wages.

At the end of the day, he's going from being the number 1 'keeper at a top ten team who should be entering the peak of his career...to sit on the bench. From a neutrals point of view, it's a shame.

Honestly? If I were a player who was good enough to play EPL level football I'd jump at the chance to move to a club like Chelsea. The opportunity to train every day with the best players in the country, the chance to challenge for titles and to try and push to be the number one player in my position?

I'd definitely be taking that chance.

He'll no doubt learn a lot, and if Courtois dips in from or gets injured and Begovic gets a run of games then great. But the biggest worry is Courtois stays fit and keeps up his form...and stays there for another few years. It would be a shame to see Begovic rot on the bench for the foreseeable.

Hopefully if he doesn't get a game this season, a team like Liverpool or Spurs come in for him next year.

Aye, and that's why all the guys telling him he shouldn't be making the move because it shows a lack of ambition and suchlike aren't actually professional footballers. The kind of idiots who'd refuse a move to one of the top clubs in Europe because they'd be afraid they aren't good enough to hang with the best.

I'm not actually saying that I think he's good enough, but he will believe he's in with a shot. If he didn't think he was good enough he'd not have even made it as far as Stoke most likely.

    That's a good point.

Then if you are someone like Ter Stegen, you could play in all the games in a particular cup and help the team win it. Either domestically or in Europe. If it doesn't work he gets a move to a good team and becomes their number one.

Exactly. He'll believe that he belongs at that level without doubt. He'll go there, train hard, play when asked and look to either shift Courtois (very difficult, of course) or play well enough to attract another top level club.

I actually think that the kind of mentality you see in threads like this is mirrored somewhat by Scottish born players. We never think we're good enough.

Teo Gutiérrez was apparently close to a move to Sporting Lisbon. Then his agent wanted a 700,000€ commission and they told him to * off :smiley-laughing002:

Anyone think Van Gaal wants to get rid of Di Maria? Or if he'd accept a bid if he recouped most of the money back on him

Hope not, a want to see him get another season.

Apparently the players taxes are more or less taken care of, too.
