You're making a bit of an apples and oranges comparison:

Lampard, Ballack, Khedira and Alonso are all defensive midfielders, and would sit in the '2' of Mourinho's favoured 4-2-3-1, Drogba obviously being the '1' (striker).

In the third line Mourinho has had players like Duff, Robben, Sneijder, Callejon, Di Maria and Ozil - all fairly lightweight - so in that sense Mata fits in with his style of play fine.

Rooney performs a different function as he is a striker and would play ahead of Mata, Hazard and Oscar at Chelsea (although he can also play in the hole I wouldn't anticipate Mourinho signing him for that purpose).

 

Arguably a better option for Bayern than Thiago, they already have an abundance of creative players.

 

Youre talking about Centre Midfielders though. Mata either plays in the hole or Wide...think of some of the playmakers Mourinho's had...Deco...Sniejder...Ozil....none of those players are tall or physical. I see no reason. why Mourinho would want shot of a player who was their best last season, in Mata.

 

Mata is the best player in England, if they have been offered Mata + £10million for Rooney then either Chelsea are taking the * out them or somecunts off their nut!

 

Chelsea should take him, been a while since they had a good sitting midfielder.

Papiss Cisse has pulled out of Newcastle's pre-season tour to Portugal after refusing to wear club sponsor Wonga's logo on religious grounds.
The Senegal striker, a Muslim, told club officials he was not prepared to promote the money-lending company.
But the 28-year-old did offer to wear an unbranded shirt or one bearing a charity logo instead.
Newcastle It leaves Cisse's future in doubt, with sources describing the relationship between the parties as "strained".
The Newcastle forward and his representatives have been in talks with club officials and the Professional Footballers' Association in recent days but neither the club nor their shirt sponsor have been able to find a solution.
Cheick Tiote and Moussa Sissoko, Cisse's team-mates at Newcastle, are also Muslim but have told the club they have no issue with wearing the sponsor's logo.
Cisse will continue to train on his own as he attempts to catch up on his fitness after returning later than the majority of the squad following international duty with Senegal.
Both camps are hopeful that a solution can be found, but it seems Cisse is not prepared to move on his position.
