Also a helluva tough round 1 match against Alize Cornet to be fair. Could've been a lot kinder than that.

 

Yep, spot on. Being able to play a bit more away from the spotlight will help her immensely. After the miracle of last year, she was always going to be facing a tougher year with opponents viewing her as a target. She didn't even play that badly last night, just that Alize was better. I also know for a fact that Billie Jean King really rates her ball striking technique.

 

Murray through to round 3 and will face Berrettini. A big test of his revival this one but a winnable match.

 

Murray lost to Berrettini in one of the two finals he made this year, so he'll know his game well. His ROS needs to be spot on because Berrettini's serve is a monster, and he'll need to take advantage of any break opportunities he gets. The other thing Andy can get at is Berrettini's backhand, which every player tries to attack as that's probably the main thing holding Berrettini back from being a regular slam contender.

On another note, great win for Jack Draper last night.

Not a surprising result but it was good to see Andy in decent form. Draper had to retire via injury too, which is a shame. This slam will have been great experience for him though.

Kyrgios on top form.. beat Medvedev comfortably 3-1 there at the US Open

 

Alcaraz wins the US Open and is the new world number 1. Hopefully the first of many. Great match.

 

Was unreal entertainment. Some mental rallies. Ruud is some player but there was no Escape from Alcaraz.

He really has that X Factor though. Pure class. You could see he was tiring badly at one stage having played so many 5 setters but he just refused to let it drag him down. Excited to see how Roland Garros goes next year. Working from home gave me the chance to watch quite a lot of that US Open.. definitely going to follow the tennis closer now. Love it.

 

Outwith Celtic I watch far more tennis than I do football these days. It’s great following the tour year round.

 

Roger Federer announces his retirement from Tennis.

Many will disagree and they'll be well within their rights to pick Rafa or Novak but for me? The greatest tennis player there has ever been and one of the greatest sportsman the world has ever seen. Up there with Jordan and Woods for me.

Happy Retirement to the GOAT.

Alcaraz winning the other night was good but its making me realise how much I'm going to miss this golden generation of tennis
