Wawrinka wouldn't have been complaining when Murray came back at Djokovic in last year's semi final.

Yeah, the next match. You've just strengthened my point.

Wimbledon 2013, Murray drops the first 2 sets to Verdasco in the Quarters whilst Djokovic walks through Berdych.

Didn't look as if Djokovic took a single bit of an advantage as he lost in straight sets in the Final.

Horses for courses. Of course as you'll be well aware that there are far more ground strokes in Paris than Wimbledon. The grass favours the server. Much more gruelling and Djokovic v Murray was the day before the final.

Murray was at a similar disadvantage before in the US when he came through a two day tussle with Nadal to lose easily to Federer in the Final.

So you agree with me that early tussles make no difference to the outcome of a Final then. Excellent.

Murray's certainly not getting it all his own way today.

Yes, early tussles won't play a part. Long games in the QFs and Semis will though.

Jeez....another hard slog to get by a qualifier! I think one hard slog is understandable, but 2 is perplexing!

I can only imagine he peaked last week and has hit a flat spot timing wise. There is nothing scientific about it, but i sort of believe in biorhythms or similar. I have played ball sports all my life, from football to golf and snooker, and for no logical reason, you can be flying one week, and totally out of sorts the next. There has never been a sound logical reason as to why this is, but for me, there is an element of cycle about it! Dont laugh!:smiley-laughing002:

Hopefully, if he can get through this week, he will be on an upward curve on the next cycle!!!! :icon_mrgreen:

I hope you are right about the upward cycle but you have to remember the greats don't have cycles. I think Murray has just come up against guys playing well because they think they have a chance to beat one of the best in the world.

He did quite well against Karlovic even though it got harder as they went on he always looked under control.

His speed across the court and his lob shots amaze me. That cross court shot he was doing to Karlovic was incredible too.

Murray must be the best No.4 there's ever been in tennis.

Murray-Djokovic final is pretty much inevitable now.

Same could be said for any tournament really.

Always a few twists and turns to go.

It's not inevitable at all. Stan Wawrinka is a better player than Murray on clay and they could potentially meet in the semis.

Terrible news about Rafa. Sounds like he could be missing Wimbledon as well. :54:

He's not played him on clay for 3 years which coincidentally is the time period Murray has vastly improved on the surface.

Murray hasn't improved to the point where it's inevitable he would beat Wawrinka.

It's not inevitable he'll beat anyone, same as Novak. Hence neither have ever won it.

Imagine Andy won the French and then wins the Australian after being in 5 Finals to beat Djokovic to the full set.

    Poor Djoker :56:

Gutted Rafa is out. I was banking on Djok having a really difficult semi final!

Rafa and Roger out.........end of an era.
