I know what you mean mate. I'm still waiting for a wow signing. We seem to have brought in plenty of quality backup who can slot into the teak without us losing much in terms of skill, especially we needed someone decent to cover on the wings if either Aiden or Naka get injured and i guess Maloney can do this.

But nobody we have signed will go straight into the team. A leftback is fairly important but i think we could survive if we don't bring one in. I really think we need more pace upfront though.

its probable that celtic are chasing a left-back ,does anyone think that celtic are also chasing another centre forward,or do you hope and why

I don't know if I'm just full of early season optimism but our squad is now looking really good.I know some will say that we have not spent enough to have CL quality but I disagree.

The bench will be looking as strong as it has for a long time, which in my opinion is what makes the difference in modern day football.Having guys there that can push there counterparts for starting line up and more importantly guys that can change a game when brought on.

I only hope that WGS gives everyone a fair crack.:veryhappy:

Kennydal. I wish every celtic fan had your confidence and the level of support you show. ( but then this forum would not be so entertaining ).

As to finding a good left back, this situation is now desperate and is surely where the team is being let down.
Another striker- they should always be on the look out for ones that are better than whoever we have at present, as long as they fit the budget. For now we have what we could afford but hey, I have seen worse in my time.
But as I have always been a celtic fanatic I will always support whoever is on the park as long as they try. .
We do now have strength all around the team and what looks like very good alternatives re-positions and back ups.
I can feel a good buzz about the near future, the way things are going.

I think the tail end of last season and this summer had added enough to make this our best squad for 5 seasons. I think the squad is pretty much as good as its going to get seeing the club seem to be be restricting our typical spends to 2 or 3 million pounds, something that I think has little to do with WGS.

The midfield and wide attacking berths now have exceptional competition. I think with the big improvement in Caldwell, the introduction of the new Dutch guy and two very decent young reserve CBs we are fairly well covered there although not amazing. We have a lot of FBs now - too many are RBs but several of them can play LB too so, given they are on the wage role, I wouldnt be surprised if we dont buy a new LB and just play RBs at LB this season. Up front, Samaras and Hutchinson have added strong options and cover. Although its fair to say a top notch striker would still improve us, the club just wont spend the 6 million plus fee and 40 grand a week wages need to get one so its not going to happen unless its a veteran.

I also think we have done well to get shot of some of our dead wood this summer and it looks possible we might get rid of all of the worst offenders soon. Balde for me has reached the 'no shame' wallet-only point and really has got to go. Like Thommo, it may be their right to play in the reserves and count their money but im interested in the club not their wealth and they have tainted my good memories of them forever. The pre-season has finally made me totally give up on Donati. He is playing exactly the same as last season despite being in last chance saloon - he just is not a very good player and has no heart.

The dream scenario is that we are holding back most of the money for a really big striker signing.

As I just posted, I think the number of RBs we have on the pay role and the fact that several have LB experience will mean no big name LB signing.
