it's understandable how Fener got caught out by Molde but they did not make the same mistake in the second game. By the time we faced Molde they had beaten Fener away and drew Ajax at home so we should have known not to take them lightly. The worst though was after losing away to them to take them lightly at home just two weeks later.

The team we had this year did enough to show they were more than capable of competing in the EL. We lead Ajax three time and more impressive is that two of those times were away. We took at 2 goal lead against Fener and we took Malmo apart in the early stage of the home game.

Aye, that was more arrogance than underestimating for me.

He didn't learn from the malmo games, because we repeated the same mistakes in the molde games, he also didn't learn from the first molde game, as we got gubbed at celtic park too. Is he really learning ? im not that sure.

Yeah that's what am saying he was too stubborn to change it even after the away game. Though in the home game we had so many * chances and never took them.

We scored goals and created chances against every team we played, definitely a positive and for most of the games had an unsettled defence also main players under-performing. With Erik in, hopefully Mo then also getting Janko back fit we will be looking good for the qualifiers and there in.

very happy about his stance on short term loan signings..

ok for covering injuries or for a team fighting relegation where survival is all important.

Celtic is a club that should maintain its standards, though i can see why a new young up and coming club with big aspirations might be tempted to sign people on a short term loan... especially if they are coming from a higher league

Absolutely. I could see the days when the now dead club might've been breathing downs our necks or we were a few points behind them at this stage. At that point, signing genuine talent on a short term loan could be the right thing to do.

But, even at that, is it really? We all seen how Robbie Keane turned out (although he was admittedly brilliant for us.) In our current climate I do not see ANY reason to do this sort of thing.

Obviously if the loan period includes the CL qualification and beyond then that's another thing. It's all about context and the people who were berating Deila for considering this can now relax a bit, knowing that he was never considering it (a short term loan till the end of the season.)

I suspect that statement from Mr Deila, was a bit of game playing to ensure that they get the player on a longer term loan agreement. or the option to sign permanently if likely or possible.

Lucky for us he is * and don't give a *.

man city could say yeah 18 months no bother...and then call him back in the summer.

Celtic have reportedly agreed terms on a deal to sign highly rated Manchester City youngster Patrick Roberts.
The Hoops were offered the 18-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season, however, the Ronny Deila wanted the player on an 18-month deal and, according to SunSport Online, the Parkhead club have now got the deal they were looking for.
Roberts is expected in Scotland over the weekend to watch his new team mates in action against Ross County and put the finishing touches to the deal which will see him move from Manchester to Parkhead until summer 2017.
The highly rated 18-year-old joined City from Fulham for £11million last summer but has only made three first team appearances this season and manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen for him to move out on loan to gain experience.

WHEN Ronny Deila emerges from the tunnel at the National Stadium on Sunday, he will do so for the 100th time as Celtic manager.
The opposition are Ross County in the semi final of the League Cup and the aim is to ensure that the Norwegian’s 109th game in charge will be the League Cup final on March 13 at the same venue against either Hibernian or St Johnstone, who play today (Saturday).
In the lead-up to the game we take a look at the milestone games in the manager’s march to 100.

    CELTIC...1
    McGregor 84
    KR REYKJAVIK...0
CELTIC made the perfect start to their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Icelandic champions KR Reykjavik. Manager Ronny Deila named a strong starting line-up in his first competitive match and handed a first-team debut to U20s star Callum McGregor in midfield. The 21-year-old formed part of an attacking trio alongside Kris Commons and Leigh Griffiths, who sat behind Stokes, and he was the man who eventually sealed victory for the Hoops. Celtic pressed well the entire game but struggled to find a way past a resolute KR defence but McGregor's brilliant individual effort on 84mins was enough to secure victory in Ronny Deila's first competitive game. The youngster showed great endeavour down the Celtic right flank and cut inside his defender on to his left foot. He feigned to shoot three times before eventually

    CELTIC...2
    (Stokes 44, Guidetti 54)
    DUNDEE...1
    (Clarkson 58)
CELTIC extended their unbeaten run to eight games and made it five league wins on the spin after edging out Dundee 2-1 in an entertaining and closely-contested league encounter. Anthony Stokes headed the Hoops in front on the stroke of half-time after both sides had carved out chances in an absorbing opening 45 minutes. And when the impressive James Forrest supplied John Guidetti for his 10th goal of the season nine minutes into the second half the points seemed secure. But Dundee swiftly pulled a goal back through David Clarkson to ensure a tense finish to the match, though there would be no more twists in the tale as Ronny Deila’s men held on.

    CELTIC...3
    (Mackay-Steven 15, Guidetti 33, Denayer 45)
    DUNDEE UNITED...0
CELTIC capped off their run of four games in a row against Dundee United with a scintillating 3-0 win over the Terrors at Paradise in the SPFL. A trio of strikes in the first-half from Gary Mackay-Steven, John Guidetti and Jason Denayer put paid to any hopes of Jackie McNamara claiming a victory against Ronny Deila’s side and helped the Hoops go five points clear of Aberdeen with a game in hand. The meeting marked the fourth consecutive game between the sides following their two tussles in the Scottish Cup quarter-final and their League Cup final clash inside a fortnight. The Hoops had emerged victorious in two of those contests, lifting the League Cup in the process, and accomplished that without former Dundee United duo Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong who were cup-tied.

    (Fischer 25, Schone 84)
    CELTIC...2
    (Bitton 8, Lustig 42)
CELTIC had to settle for a point in the group stages opener after a late Ajax free-kick evaded the Hoops defence to * a dramatic draw. The Bhoys opened the scoring early in the first-half through Nir Bitton’s pinpoint strike but were pegged back on 25 minutes through Victor Fischer’s 20-yard shot. Ronny Deila’s team deservedly got back in front before the interval when Mikael Lustig powered a header in at the back post but a late sending off for Emilio Izaguirre for a second bookable offence changed the complexion of the game and allowed Ajax to pile on the pressure. The Hoops eventually succumbed just six minutes from time in frustrating fashion when a free-kick from Lasse Schone got past everyone in the box and nestled in the net. It was a sucker punch for the Scottish champions, who had twice led in their Group A opener, but the result still got their first point on the board.

    ROSS COUNTY v CELTIC
WE don’t know what lies in wait this coming Sunday but a win for the Celts will go a long way towards, not only retaining the first trophy won by Ronny Deila at the club, but also in taking another step towards the treble. Indeed, Celtic and Ross County are the only two teams still in with a chance of winning the treble as they are the only ones actively involved in all three competitions, but the Highland side’s chances of league success, it has to be said, are merely mathematical rather than probable. So their desire for success in cup competitions will make them a difficult proposition on Sunday but they will be battling against Celtic’s drive for the treble

Did OG1 get banned then? I wondered why this thread had been so quiet recently. :smiley-laughing002:

Maybe it's the recent run of domestic results, or just a sense of optimism around the new transfers, but I'm feeling every so slightly better about having Deila as manager as I was a few weeks ago.

There can be no excuses in the CL qualifiers this time though, it's make or break for him. He's had more than enough time to get his own team in place and implement his own ideas. He's got to deliver.
