About signings: Van Dijk came from a small dutch club. Larsson, a 25 years old from the mid table of Swedish League. Wanyama from a mid table israeli club, same for Bitton. All of them would in theory be still within our reach if it wasn't for our incompenent and/or ill intended board.

To make my point valid, check here Malmo's transfers. I keep mentioning Malmö not because I think they are an example for us, but as I live here I follow them closely. Pay attention to the players that left, rather than the players that they signed. 1 pound is worth around 10 swedish kroner, so divide the values they received by 10.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Malmö_FF_season#Players_in.2Fout

Emil Forsberg was exactly was this team needed, a natural left winger suited to 4231. He went to the german second division for just one million more than what we paid for Armstrong. Look how much they earned for their players, and the level of clubs that signed them. All these players costed about the same as our Scepovics and Ciftcis but went to clubs that as of now would wipe the floor with us.

There is a crowd of players around the 3 million mark in the scandinavian market that could do wonders for us. I was trying to even do an entire line up of eleven players. But Ronny claims none of them are good enough for Celtic. Alright. Cifcti that is. Blackett that is. Boyata that is.

Alright, mixed up on that two. Which team in Belgium? Bailey also came from Belgium. If it wasnt Gent, Anderlecht or Liege it's still a small club compared to us.

You're Swedish and a Tim ffs, how can you not know Larsson's career? :smiley-laughing002:

Wim brought him to Feyenoord then Wim left. Larsson fell out of favour and was being shunted to the RW, then when Wim took over here he knew Henke had a clause in his contract and took advantage of it.

    It's the stuff of legend.

The guy who didn't fancy him at feyenoord must be the stupidest person on the planet. :smiley-laughing002:

Beerschot. Got him for less than £1m because they were in financial difficulties. Eventually went bankrupt.

That's the thing, even in the darkest days there was a few players you could hitch your wagon too.

there doesn't seem to be anything just now. :54:

If those named were available today, we couldn't afford the fee and certainly couldn't afford the wages. That's not being clever or bitter, that's just the way it is. We are competing with teams who have mega bucks and we use bottle tops.

Well one of them came through our youth ranks and another was bought from Hibs.

I'm sure we could still afford a Hibs player today.

Don't think we payed that much for Di Canio, PVH and Cadete. Course that was in the days when the guy identifying forwards for us wasn't a *

There's always been at least one or two. Even Mowbray had McGeady and Maloney, last year we had Virgil and Denayer. This not having anyone is unusual and depressing.

Maybe (Griffiths) and probably (Tierney) in a few years; certainly not now. Quite a few in that bracket too.

Compared to players we hitched our wagons to even in the darkest days of the early 90s that is * depressing.

We don't have a maverick, a player who stands out against all others.

We had Elliott, McStay, Collins in the early 90s.

We had Di Canio, Cadete, Pierre, Thom in the mid/late 90s.

We had Larsson/Lubo in the late 90s early 00s.

We had Larsson, Lubo, Sutton, Petrov, Lambert, Lenny in the early 2000s.

We had Hartson, Naka, McGeady in the late 2000s

We had Commons, Vic, Hooper, VVD in the early 10s.

now we have Tierney (a young guy I hope goes on to better things) and Griffiths.

    It's * depressing.

Hope you don't mind me adding a little to your excellent post. :50:

Even Boyd, Tom Boyd was a much better defender than any we have on our books now, versatile as Ambrose too.

Depressing is exactly the right word.

A think the scouting at celtic needs looked at badly who ever went and watched the likes of balde, puki, blacket, scepovic, borregter etc etc the list goes on and on needs there * eyes tested, a could pick better players with half of the prices we shelled out and the only experience a have is on champ manager and fifa :icon_mrgreen:

In all honesty who the * is finding some of these guys, am pretty sure a read we paid nearly 2 million for balde, he was raw for 2 year and then released.

We paid £3 million for the striker then sent him on loan, what the * is going on??

£3 million for the dutchman and he played naw bad on his debut then * vanished like a fart in the wind.

millions wasted on fees and wages and thats just a couple of players off the top of my head. no wonder we are getting horsed in europe the mistakes we have made in that transfer market are ridiculas.

Tom boyd is probly still better than some of the defenders we have playing for us just now, and he retired 10 year ago and is about 14 stone :50:
