That's partly why we're in this mess the board aren't letting him, if Lennon didn't get backed then Deila has no chance. I'd also argue against this team being simply not good enough yes we have clearly regressed and need 3-4 quality players but Deila's tactics and team selection are largely to blame for the manner of the defeats against Legia and Maribor, there is no doubting that.

Words mean nothing, and the second part is doubtful.

Hope he can turn it around, I want to like him.

But the tactics have been totally wrong.

Tactics don't necessarily win games, football players win games.

The football players we have right now aren't good enough, and that isn't Deila's fault.

Tactics are wrong? * me, that's the laziest analysis of where we went wrong that I've ever heard. Seriously what does that even mean? Almost everyone was happy with his starting line-up at the beginning of the game, and now that we lost it's "his tactics are wrong". Which part of his tactics are wrong, I'm not excepting his style of play is "wrong" as answer. What is it, his team selection? His formation? The fact that he didn't play the magical 4-3-1-2 with retards Commons, Stokes and Thumb bhoy up front just because they can destroy * SPL teams? I mean playing that * formation in Europe, we've be totally embarrassed, would have no width and teams would absolutely destroy us on the wings with a competent winger and a full back on both sides.

It's an easy kop out to say his "tactics are wrong", it's a nonsense criticism. His tactics are wrong? Well the quality of the players he's been left with is wrong, the fact we're not spending any money is wrong, the fact he's been left with a poor squad and so much deadwood is wrong and the fact that he's been thrown into the thick of it and is expected to get results straight away is more than wrong!

Your obviously not very good at reading correctly are you, if your playing a 4-3-3, why are we bringing in so many wingers? Look at their goalscoring records of the wingers and tell me it's a great idea. Remember Stokes is actually a full-back during games for the opposition, he isn't in the centre.

If your playing 3 up front, you better have a decent goalscoring record among them.

I'll ask again, look at the players we have and are reputed to be buying and then come back to me again.

He's playing a tactic that we don't have the players for, simple.

As for Scandinavia, as I said they lack too much quality, there's no use talking about a few players and then going back in time, Scotland went * knows how many finals and then it just stopped, Scandinavian . As I said, we're buying in my eyes, pretty average players from SCandinavia who for me are not improving our squad, you can only get so far with hard worker.

I think he's out of his depth tbh.People are saying the team are * but imo they are defo good enough to beat legia and maribor. Also people are saying Lennon and Strachan got of to bad starts which they did but they did show glimpses of hope, this guy has showed nothing.I like his ideas and philosophy and I will give him and chance but imo this guy is a coach not a manager

It trades width for strength in the centre. Lenny's tactic worked, we scored goals, and we conceded little.

Anyone see the parallels between Lennon and Deila and Ferguson and Van Gaal?

Lenny's tactic worked???? WHEN???? We got hammered in almost every CL game last year. Remember we're not talking about playing against sides like Kilmarnock or StJohnstone, this is European quality teams we're talking about where guys like Griffiths, Stokes and Commons have been found out time and time again. The time we did do well in Europe we played with width in either a 4-5-1 or a 4-4-1-1, which is not too far off what Deila is doing.

This whole notion that Commons behind Griffiths/Stokes in Europe with no width will see us progress is absolute nonsense.

The players Deila has it his disposal, just like Lennon last year, for the majority, just aren't good enough. We were very fortunate to draw Karagnady last year, the worst team we could get, otherwise this type of result would have happened a year ago. The board played with fire going into the play-off game last year and won, they have once again played with fire this time, and lost.

I have a lot of sympathy for Deila, he talks a lot of sense in my opinion, but he simply isn't going to be given the backing to achieve what he wants here in my opinion. One thing I was very happy about last night, was that a lot of the fans were venting their anger in exactly the right direction.

Our best games in Europe under Lennon featured very narrow formations. Deila only needed a DM to be able to bring us back to the best performance level of NL. And he brings in...wingers. Bizzarre. He made us play worse than last year.

I don't think you guys are right. I honestly think this IS Deilas fault.

Look, you are 100% right that our squad isn't good enough for CL BUT it is more than good enough to beat both Legia and Maribor, on paper at least. We should be beating them and thats a fact. We have more quality players in our 11 than in both Maribor and Legia 11's combined.

Three things were factors for those losses and NONE of them is our supposedly poor squad. Deila tactics, he doesn't understand that we have different types of players than his last club and yet he plays 4-3-3 and stuff like that. Weird changes and that wasn't the first game with that either and lastly I think players lack motivation. Lennon had the heart for it, the spirit. Deila is more of a calm guy, quiet type.

Of course that's only my opinion but this is the way I see it.

Unless there were injuries to players other than lustig, why did he make all his subs?! That was a game that didn't need to be chased as we were through if it stayed 0-0! So that mob score and the manager has left himself with no way of changing the game as he's played all his cards!! Since he's been here his substitutions especially have been beyond bizarre at times. I really want to like the guy but it looks as tho it's gonna take an entire squad overhaul with 1 or 2 exceptions for him to fully integrate his way of playing and that won't happen

I can read perfectly well, I think its your understanding of tactics thats the problem. You dont buy a winger to score goals, you buy a winger to make goals, it's just a shame all the strikers at our club are * poor., I'll agree with you on that.

But the board knew his philosophy and tactics when they hired him yet arent allowing him the resources to get players who suit it.

I'm not going back in time, Sweden qualified for the last Euros and only failed to qualify for the WC because Ronaldo played one of the best games of his career, and I gave you players from the three main Scandinavian countries, not to mention players like Sigurdarsson and Finnbogasson from Iceland. I really dont get your point about Scandinavian players at all, why does it matter where they are from?

Johansen didnt play well last night, neither did the whole team, but at least Johansen was working hard and pressing the ball. Hard work is more important than having a show pony in your team. If the rest of the team put in as much of a shift as Johansen we might have got further up the pitch instead of being hemmed in for large parts of the second half. Look at Greece and Denmark's European Championship winning teams. Won major tournaments through hard work despite not having the most gifted squad.

I'll ask you one question, were you wanting Lennon sacked after Utrecht? bearing in mind Lennon got quite major money to spend on Juarez etc whilst Deila has been given * all

I know some are saying that its not his players and to an extent I understand that fully but those are hos coworkers hes been here long enough to know whos who and that ambrose and mulgrew are * yet nothings being done about it.
He obviously has fun a pal in Mulgrrw and Stokes and at times his lineups are questionable as per yesterday.
Deila does talk a great game, I'll give him that. I just hope he isnt all bark and no bite.
