With us losing VVD and Denayer, you really expected us to go out and get three new centre halfs this summer? Never going to happen, though I get why you might say that.

The basic understanding of football tells you you play players in the "natural" role first and foremost. Not only did Efe fit that bill, he also displayed good form previously. You might disagree he made the wrong choice after the event, but logic can point to why he made that decision.

As in Tom Logic (for our Japanese forum members.)

Outjumped, beaten to the ball, who cares - it was his fault. I agree with you though and didn't mean to spin it as a "good performance otherwise." If he costs two goals by definition it is a horrendous performance, the end.

The Deila comment wasn't necessarily aimed at you. I would agree to a point - the manager must carry the can. But there were a string of events which led to Ambrose being given the nod which I can fully understand.

But, yes, it came back and bit him on the * big time. I also fully agree, should Deila play Efe again in a big game and he makes another mistake, it will be a big black mark against Deila in my book. I am also a guy who tends to defend Efe more often than not, but even he outlived my goodwill a while back and his recent mistakes probably mean he should be sold at the next possible opportunity. It's gone on far too long.

However, as before, Diela has obviously recognised that Efe isn't befitting a start for us when everyone's fit. I stand to be corrected but I can't think of (m)any times we had 3 or 4 excellent to very good Centre Halfs at the club. Back up players just aren't as good as first team players and we have fallen victim to that, albeit in quite spectacular fashion.

I agree with all of that post except for this bit, you play the player that's better for the team and better in that position regardless if it's their natural position or not.

I'd have Messi as a central midfielder ahead of Bitton every day :icon_mrgreen:

Ridiculous comparison I know but it illustrates the point.

Infact look at Mascherano at Barca, plays ahead of Bartea despite naturally being one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and Barta being a centre back.

I agree with all that and, yes, had to correct myself in a later post. You can be rock solid for 88 minutes but if you throw 2 goals in the nets it's a shocking performance. I forgot to add that bit (it was in my head, honestly) :52:

Have to agree giving the opposition 2 goals basically is a discraceful performance doesn't count about the other 88 minutes, it's shambolic and he shouldn't have started the game, everyone else goes on about how he was the only player who could have started?? Wrong he should have been sold within the last 2 transfer windows were aparently we were offered decent dough for him, to me it's down to bad management for not selling him and replacing him, not having the confidence in blacket who he signed, letting fisher go on loan not enough cover??

Imo Bitton would have been a better option playing at centre back than ambrose, personally u would be more comfortable with us starting a game with 1 of the young guys in the development squad than ambrose, time and time again he always makes mistakes and still gets selected, bizarre, if you miss a game and are talking to a mate etc what was the score??? 2-2 what happened? ? We were cruising at 2-1 then they get a penalty.. and you just know who's gave that penalty away at * ambrose again.

Not good enough for the hoops only thing got going for him is his somersault and chopping ten years off his age to make it as a professional footballer.

Og1 what's you opinion on this?

"Winning is important, but so is how you win and how you play the game," he said. "I believe in a playing philosophy that is very emotional, very fast and very strong.

"My teams must play at full throttle and take it to the limit every single game.

"It is important to have a playing philosophy that reflects your own mentality, reflects the club and gives you a clear direction to follow. Tactical of course, but tactical with a big heart."
