For those who want us to play with two strikers, Ronny addresses the issue:

"I’ve played two strikers already this year. We played for the last 30 minutes against Aberdeen with two strikers.

"When you play Kris Commons and Ciftci, you can’t come much closer to playing a 4-4-2. Kris is a goalscorer, more of a striker than a midfielder.

“So it is about balance. I want angles in my play. If you have a 4-4-2 with a striker dropping off, rather than having a midfielder in that position, then you have big angles.

“I want shorter angles in the pitch and the number 10 is very important to get the angles round the sides.

“So it is small differences. But it is important you have goalscorers on the pitch. I think we have scored 23 goals in eight league matches - an average of more than three a game. It’s not easy to score much more than that.

“It is more than we did last year in the same period. So there are some positive things there.”

    Play a 352 or a diamond then.

But what he likes about our current formation is the diamond between our front four. A 4-4-2 diamond or a 352 will only give you that if both fullbacks/wingbacks are attacking, which leaves you exposed at the back.

I don't think there is much point debating the merits and flaws with 4-3-3-1 as Ronny is unlikely to change it..

And there's no doubt it has worked well in both in Europe and domestically recently.

Our players know exactly what to expect and so do other managers so it will make for some interesting matches.

The arrogant streak than Ronny has and the complete belief in what he is trying to achieve, his way, will make or break his tenure here.

I can understand what Ronny is saying as Commons is a very attacking player, but he still hasn't played a 2 man striking partnership. I'd be surprised if he ever plays Ciftci just behind Griffiths, for example.

More so than now? I dont think so. Any of those formations are as attacking or defensive as you want them to be.

Get used to one striker then, truth be told his thinking here is wrong. I dont care if the whole forum has a go. He is wrong not playing two up in some games domestically. All that bullshit about philosophies means nothing when we are getting the basics wrong.

I dont care how attacking the front four becomes, i know that interplay between clever strikers is better in Scotland than his one up top. I know that Stokes with Griff would be immense. This man cant even see it.

Is there a goalie in this system or 4 strikers:smiley-laughing002:

There's plenty of point discussing the merits of 4331, as that formation means you'll have 12 players on the pitch. nice if you can get away with it... :smiley-laughing002:

Not saying that a 442 diamond necessarily would leave us more exposed. i'm saying that with that kind of formation we'd carry a heavier punch through the middle, but it would make it harder to go wide unless you expose yourself defensively. Our manager prefers a formation that trades away some penetration centrally and in return makes it easier to vary our play.

You'd think we'd have been able to breast Malmo with 12 players on the pitch. :54:
