You've obviously not heard the news from og1 and doctor venglos. Apparently the league is all but lost after that defeat to Aberdeen and them extending their lead last night against Hamilton...

Ano, it's mental but it's what they think. :smiley-laughing002:

The simple truth (and the end to this mental discussion, at least for those of us who are sane) is to wait & see how Deila does this season. We won't know that until the season is over.

Obviously winning the league title is a must, and a cup or two would be great. He'll also be judged on our Europa League exploits, and whilst no one should be under any illusions that we can win the thing, something similar to the run we got last season should certainly be achievable.

Deila's future will be decided in the summer, and not before (barring some mental catastrophe, such as us falling 10 points behind in the league by January).

Calls to remove him now are wide of the mark in my opinion.

If he's going to be removed it should be with plenty of time to get the new man bedded in for the qualifiers. The summer isn't the time to look for change for us, the most important games of our season are at the very start of summer.

Hi future being decided in the summer is imo, the worst possible outcome.

He will either win the league (and possibly a cup or two), and put in some decent performances in Europe and be afforded another shot at CL qualification, or he will struggle in the league, perform poorly in Europe and be sent packing. Either wether Deila is going to be here for next seasons CL qualifiers should be decided well before the end of the season - barring some sort of end of season collapse of course.

Coming to a decsion on his future a couple of months before the biggest games of our season would limit our chances of playing CL football the following season. Personally, I'm hoping he's judged on how we perform in the Europea this year, assuming the league is still a given.

This. IT's the wrong time to change things imo, and would almost ensure we weren't playing CL football the following season.

Deila is under pressure just now and essentially being judged game-by-game. A loss against Ajax followed by any dropped points in the SPFL at the weekend would see him being under huge pressure.

If it's apparent before the end of the season that he isn't working out then we shouldn't wait till just before our most important games of the season to do anything about it.

That goes for any Celtic manager.

Correct we would probably be better risking failure by sticking with the devil we know rather than just throwing a new man in. We both agree on the madness of being in transition for these games. I reckon we will have a new manager in the dugout before the next window opens. Honest opinion.

So you think the best time, if we had to ever get rid of a manager, is just before our biggest games of the season?

    Where's the sense in that?

How many managers worth their salt are available before the summer though, usually? Unless you're talking about bringing in someone who is either not with a club as the season finishes, or who has been sacked mid-season?

Personally, I'd be looking for us to be bringing in someone who's been successful, and who is coming directly to us after a successful season with a club during the 2015/16 season.

Too risky. We need the team to be settled.

This is assuming that we flop miserably and Deila is actually removed, of course. As things stand I don't want him removed.

We're in the Europa League, the league and both cups. A defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie doesn't change that.

So you're advocating a move for a manager who either isn't deemed good enough to be in employment at the moment, or who's been sacked mid-season then?

Of course, I, for one, totally agree with that in principal no manager is beyond the sack, I just disagree that it can be applied to Ronnie.
What we're trying to do at Celtic is obvious, it's like a project to become an Ajax type club, that's long term stuff and it's also something Ronnie is really good at. He's already improved, pretty much all our players from top team to dev squad (the ones that are open to self improvement anyway), all squads playing same way, cleared and open path from dev/youth teams to first team via training then sub apps. then a few starts then a loan or straight into first team contention if they're really good. This is good stuff. It's complex and takes time. We have just had a bit of bad form, lost our two best CBs from last season and are still gelling, we will improve from this point onwards, hopefully reasonably quickly. :50::shamrock:

There are plenty of alternatives to Deila that we could find in any calendar month.

Would we have got RD if we had gone for him outwith the summer? You bet we would have.

I said in another thread that I wouldnt be against Paul Lambert. So to answer your question, yes I suppose so. I dont care if our manager has got the sack previously just that he makes us better.

Folk seem to think developing a football team, with all the ins and outs of doing that, works like Football Manager, a couple of clicks and boom.

Yeah and his Villa side was great...

I love Lambert and have a lot of respect for him but his teams are a slog. We wouldn't get very far in Europe with footy like that.

That's a very, very bold claim. In fact I would have to completely disagree that RD has improved all of our players.

We have to improve quickly from this point onwards, or Deila will be out of a job before Christmas.
