Lennon would have got us there. No point crying about it though. The important thing is that Ronny does not get the same level of interference from the board of directors that Lenny got. If he does he will just quit and head for the EPL or championship. Then we will have to start again. Again.

Main problem against them though was Ronny implemented his own style of play right away and the team were awful at it, defence and midfield all over the place and wide open at the back allowing us to be countered for fun.

Lennon's team played tighter, more solid football and never gave much away.

No he wouldn't. No point in debating it.

Us with Guardiola, wouldn't have beaten Legia. No point in debating.

Well they fielded an ineligable player so it would have came down to Maribour at home and there is no chance we would not have went through. I also think Lennon may have beat Legia legitimately but I agree with you they were a good side.

I am not trying to turn this into a Lennon V Delia thread btw. I do think that our board should show our current manager more respect than our previous one though

Yeah they were long time targets and im happy both are here. I would like to see new contacts sorted for several of our current players now though to make sure the Ledley situation is not repeated with someone else i.e Stefan. Keep Virgil as Ronny said no selling behind Ronnys back no matter what price. Get a CL level striker in if we dont sign Gudetti. etc

I've been his biggest critic but I'll happily do a Sutton if Scepovic gets a good pre season under his belt along with a run of games.

He's technically pretty decent but he's far too much of a pansy for me. It may have been an easy ride, in a physical sense, in Spain's 2nd tier, but he really needs to toughen up if he wants to succeed at Celtic both domestically and in Europe

Long term ? Ronny only came in, in the summer.
Contracts can only be sorted and signed should the player want to extend his stay here.
Aye we should just lock VVD up in the basement, only allow him out to train and play, as he will be over the moon at being kept :50:

Legia would have beaten Lennon team as well. Considering how much fitter they were under Deila at that time of the season they wouldn't have last 15 minutes against Legia.

I used to watch us in europe struggling against so called lesser sides who had no where near the resources we had and wishing that we could have a team like them. A team capable of beating the lesser sides without too much fuss and also of taking the game to the bigger teams in europe, causing a few upsets without getting embarassed, and playing fast attractive football at the same time. Ronnie seems to be well on the way to giving us a team like that. No superstars, just good players, playing as a team in a good system with tremendous fitness levels. Long may it continue.

Nah, Lenny wouldn't have had Matthews at left back, started with a guy who hadn't trained with his teammates yet or went suicidal with 10 men trying to chase a win.

Wouldn't have had Commons playing upfront himself either.

Even at that, we progressed against Legia. He would have got the result against Maribor.

Don't know if it's already been posted but BT sports have put up a interview with Chris Sutton and Ronny Bhoy, not seen it yet but Chris' first question was

'Do ex Players and Pundits annoy you?' :56:

Legia would have easily beaten Lennon's team. Against Elfsborg and Karagandy he rode his luck, he showed he was too 1-dimensional and Legia would have torn him apart.

Completely different team that played those two clubs though. May as well say Legia were nowhere near Barcelona and Lenny's team beat them :50:

Still doesn't matter though because we didn't get knocked out by Legia. We got knocked out by Maribor.

The only difference between Deila's team v Legia and potentially Lennon's was Berget.

Karagandy were nowhere near Barcelona and still beat us 2-0. Legia might not have made the mistake under different circumstances. As we know they were aware of the risks.

Personell wise, yes. In terms of the way they'd approach games it was worlds apart.

Lennons teams kept an awful lot of clean sheets in the Champions League qualifiers and relied on counter-attacks/set pieces for the goals. It's not pretty, but he knew how to get us through the qualifiers.

We scored seventeen goals and only conceded three in ten Champions League qualifiers under Lennon. The suggestion that Legia Warszawa would have torn one of his sides apart has no basis in reality.
