Appraising this Season can't be done without mentioning Aberdeen heavily.

They are having a good Season by any other SPFL club standards, we're having a normal one. That doesn't mean the Manager should lose his job, he's about to win 2 Titles in a row.

Said it yeaterday, ill say it again, on track for 90+ points. More than acceptble points tally considering in recent years we have won the league with less (12/13), came second with more (10/11) and also won it with only a point better (14/15). Plus one year both celtic and rangera got less than what we are on track for this season (09/10).

His domestic form has been more than acceptable. A few boring and laboured performances from the side as a whole, more specifically certain players are letting the side down - brown and johansen specifically who dictated our team so much last season.

The only really down side to this season was the shambles in how we done in Europe, which I made a thread about and highlighted that outside of two players (gorson and Ambrose) letting us down massively, and not having an on form striker, we actually played really well.

Surprisingly its in Europe where we play better -minus the already mentioned let downs - where teams actually go and play football and allow us the space in the final third to do our thing.

In Scotland deila and his squad are up against 11 players behind the ball, where he stubbornly doesnt change things to try break it down, but we still manage to get the job done most times. So much so our final points tally is going to be well within an acceptable range.

It really is the same a last season where Aberdeen are having a better season than usual, thanks no doubt to having more open games for them (and others) to play for.

I dont overly blame deila for sticking to his game plan either (though very frustrating) as it is very good to watch when it works. And in Europe it does - minus Gordon and Ambrose - if we just had a tad bit of luck run our way.

Also, we are only 6 goals away from out goals scored tally of last season, with plenty games left to smash that - a sign that Griffiths is great and that we can score - just too many times teama like Dundee set up against us in a similar way as to how we would have set up against Barcelona, juventus, arsenal etc in the past.
The smaller team making it harder for the bigger team and frustrating the * out of them.

I honestly keep chopping and changing my mind on deila over this season, but too many factors that are used to beat him with are things that have been widely known to be out of his control. Not speculating on the vvd sale last summer and bringing in guys before we got that cash was a mistake in regards to champions league. Nd in hindsight europa as well. Im more than confident that deila would rather have played anyone bar Ambrose or blackette at the back in that campaign, but he had no choice. he also didnt get a striker in that he wanted, and we didnt have an inform Griffiths then.

For me, give him another year, there is enough signs to suggest that the errors we made this season in Europe are fixed - central pairing of jozo and erik, with Charlie and Derek as back up, Gordon has surely been highlighted as a weakness and perhaps a player to compliment Roberts either on the left or through the middle.

McGhee has apologised, said he thought Ronny blanked him earlier and it was all a misunderstanding. A bit daft and childish and it doesn't make him look good, but McGhee's alright

Back on topic, I like Ronny's continual do or die attitude, he's been under the cosh last few months but continues to try and get fans on side and believe in his players/system. He doesn't "take it on the chin" like past coaches have and like someone said earlier, give the man one more year.

Not for me, had two cracks at the Champions League (three if you count the two in one year), that's enough to get him out the door.

On top of the that, the performances domestically have been generally poor, with good football far too infrequent.

I don't get the feeling when I look at Ronny that he knows how to change a game if it isn't going well to begin with. He seems to have a Plan A, and if that doesn't work then it's *.

He doesn't learn from setbacks either, like the consecutive 0-0 draws against Dundee.

Time to go for him regardless of what happens between now and the Summer.

Agreed. He is up for the task, and I think it would be a big mistake to get rid at this point. Everything has not been done with style this season, and the Euro results were disappointing, but he keep delievering results even though his team hasn't clicked. Now with a settled back four I think we're in for better days:shamrock:

Good summary. I'm in the same boat. I've never seen a Celtic team so meek. Unfailingly loyal to consistent non-performers & an inability to adapt to different situations.

The mark of a good manager is taking a lesser squad and winning against better opposition; something Deila has failed to do. In the 2 seasons he's been here we've failed to beat any team we weren't expected to, which is the raison d'être of any Celtic manager IMO.

It's not as simple as that though mate.

The way he sets us up in Europe we look wide open at every opportunity. Back then I was still firmly defending him and also putting it down to stupid indiviudal moments(Izaguirre sending off, Ambrose being * Ambrose etc) however there weren't as many of them against Malmo for example yet we were still rank away from home and conceded a cheap goal in Glasgow which was ultimately our downfall.

He isn't learning from his mistakes on the continent and thinks we are good enough to play this formation against anyone. Sorry but, we aren't.

Even last season when we reached the last 32 our group performances were pretty poor on the whole. However it was his first season so more slack could be given.

To put it simply I'm not sure if I trust him to set us up and get the result we need in Europe. I've seen little evidence to suggest that. Even domestically although we aren't conceding too many, teams often find it quite easy to get chances against us. If we were playing better sides and not Partick Thistles, Kilmarnock's etc..then those chances would be taken more often.
