But then there are probably just as many people who are happy with Celtic participating in Remembrance Sunday. This is going to be a debate that will go on forever more unless a happy medium can be found but I doubt it, I just hope sections of our fans dont embarass themselves and our club on sunday.

    Unjust war? how so?
Do you think the soldiers supported it? No, the largest majority DON'T want to be there, they are forced to go.

:50: Excellent post. It's just a shame your forced to show your feelings on Sunday by staying out of the stadium untill it's over incase some fellow Celtic supporters get embarresed if you were to make noise during this mark of respect for the fallen war (+ illegal war) heroes.

To be honest, I feel that acceptance of symbolisation of corruption*, greed** and murder*** (all of which the British Government is guilty of) is embarrassing considering that they are kicking the man on the ground whom Celtic was founded to help!

*Many cases point to corruption in the British army in both India, and in Iraq. Cases include carrying out contracts for local weathy businness men against their enemies for money. (see murder)

** Many cases as above. Includes rape, theft of local artefacts and murder for money, from WW2 to Iraq!

*** As above, murder for money and to protect themselves from prosecution.

All armies are, and will be, guilty of these crimes, but none, other than the brits, will ask you to remember it. To quote Aeschylus, "Only the dead have see the end of war!"

What about the fallen they have killed?

Don't forget, whilst they may have been killed, many also killed.

Irish and Scottish men died fighting for the British army in these wars too. I'm sure some Celtic supporters among them. Why cant our rememberance be for those men...we can pay tribute to them if not the rest....For the Bhoys who have died in war...whatever war, whatever army....British, Scottish,Irish, whatever ....

For the Bhoys of the ould Brigade .....would we get away with singing that song instead of a minutes silence

Remembering those that have died does not mean that you support the British Army or endorse current conflicts, it simply means you are giving a though to those that gave up everything.

Respecting a minutes silence is not glorifying the British Armed Forces, it is a simple act of decency.

Nah, because then victims of "IRA Violence" would be all over the club...

And my da here says Pat would turn over in his grave if it were sung in this context, :56: Mad *!

Yeah, but then the same people who tell ya that, would say that the BNP should be banned. They are forcing their view on you, and saying you are ignorant or wrong for defying them. No politics in football, anywhere!

I agree that politics should be kept out of football however, I don't see the act of remembering those that died during the 2 WW's as political, it's much more important than that.

The BNP have every right to exist, I hate all they stand for but they're entitled to their opinions no matter how much I disagree with them.

Alot of people don't realise what Poppy day really is all about. I'm totally against it.

    Nothing but a propaganda tool.

If i'm in a war against another man then i'd imagine he's going to try and kill me so my plan would be to kill him first. Those men fought for my country, my uncles and cousins fought for my country so i will remember them, not through wearing a poppy but by giving them a thought during the minutes silence on sunday.

Great, but that's your remembrance, why should myself, and other Celtic fans, have to do this?

Not everyone at CP will want to recognise this, likewise at other grounds round Britain and occupied Ireland, I think that it is political correctness gone mad.

It's not like singing a song, where you don't just have to join in. I don't endorse this, thousands others don't. They are protesting at the political usage of the poppy, not remembering those who died. As I said, the club could win with both. Make a donation, don't have the minute silence. Everyone wins.

And the minute of silence is officially at 11, only the closest sunday to the 11th, have Their minute of silence then, and leave politics out of football!

England were in control of Ireland long before that, if it wasn't for the 1916 heros all of Ireland would still be under British rule and not just Northern Ireland.

Anyway even if they were asked does that excuse the torture, murder and rape of innocent people in the North of Ireland during the troubles right? Because they were invited does that make things like * Sunday right?

British Army are * make no mistake about it; however they are a neccesary evil.

Saying that we as Celtic fans should honour the heros of WW1 and WW2; particulary the latter as WW2 was mostly fought for the values that Celtic fans hold dear to our hearts.

There were many heros in these two wars that should be honoured

and as Celtic fans we should make a display for these heros; the poppy has been hijacked for political reasons. However there is no need to disrespect the reasons behind why people were them.

I think some of you are missing the Point.

    1. Some of us are just saying the minutes silence should be observed and not interupted. Stay seated come late whatever.

    2. Ireland at the time of world war 1 was a united ireland under British rule. Alot of men from the north and the south of ireland fought in world war 1.

Please can people, just for 30seconds stay seated if you are against and rise if you are not. Its only 30 seconds. For the sake of Celtic FC and the fans.

    Hail Hail

They weren't a United Ireland; they were an occupied country ruled by the British.
