    Good game this..

The Dutch look wide open and there for the taking. Said it before but I don't rate Koeman one bit. Fraud manager..

Ireland need to capitalise again before half time I think..

Reminds me a bit of the old Jack Charlton days where we harried the opposition. I'm conflicted, I want to win but I also want Kenny gone lol. Good game to watch though!

Pretty good first half, Dutch defence looked all over the shop.

Never going to get an offside call with Duffy playing, consistently plays 4-10 yards behind our closest defender

Good first half, * poor second.

Common theme under Kenny actually. Can’t manage a game or make any sort of sub that influences it. His time is up imo.

Been watching Ireland since 1988. Kenny has been allowed to fail more times than any other Irish manager...but he's cheap so I guess that's ok. The bloke is clueless.

We have exciting talent coming through. If Ferguson keeps developing at the rate he is and if we hire a proper coach then we will come good, don’t think we are as far away from being a good side as our results would suggest.

Will we ever win another game of football again? Under Kenny it looks unlikely.

Getting beat by the Dutch is not a stackable offence and not sure anyone else could do better but I think it's time to go. Experiment failed

Time for a new manager. Squad looks promising to some extent.

Sadly that is very accurate. The past few years talent wise is the worst Irish squad since the early 1970's IMHO.

I will agree with you on the first score but not on the second. Talent wise this is a dreadful Ireland squad IMHO.

Wish I could agree. Ferguson absolutely yes very exciting. Obviously is a very different style of player to Robbie Keane but has all the potential that he could reach the kind of levels Robbie Keane achieved in his career. But that is it in terms of real excitement IMHO. We have nobody that can play the 10 at all. Cullen is at best an ok 6 and there is nobody who can play that role at the top level on the horizon. Mikey Johnstone is the only good winger we have and he is sadly injured most of the time after him there is nothing of any note. Collins at the back is a decent center back but not much else to get excited about defensively. In goal we actually are very well stocked for the future but thats about it IMHO.

I was meaning more in the underage set ups, we have players playing in top academies and our results in the under age internationals have gradually improved in the last few years. We are definitely producing better players than we were 10/15 years ago. That said, in terms of the seniors I think you’re being a little harsh too.

Ferguson is the obvious one. Ogbene is decent, Ebosele has 20 appearances in Serie A and has huge potential, I agree on your take on Cullen, but we also have Knight who is 22 and has good scope for improvement as a number 8 type.

We also have Omobamidele who has gone recently for decent money and is only 21 so should be a capable partner for Collins in the future. Then we have Bazunu who again is very young for a keeper and has gone for big money.

We do, as you say, badly lack a number 10 type but hopefully one comes to light in the next few years.

Kenny’s time is up but it’s not all doom and gloom, we are in a much better position now than we were three years ago imo.

O I agree that there are some shall we say green shoots that can be hopeful but we are a long way away from being a good side. There has been some improvement as the very beginnings of a proper academy system within Ireland are just emerging. But the current senior squad from a talent standpoint I stand by what I said earlier it is dreadful and for a few years now has been our worst since the early 1970's IMHO. None of the players you mentioned is of any genuine top level quality except for Ferguson. Ogbene can't even get in Luton's starting line up he is not a top division player of any note never mind a quality one. Cullen is actually an OK 6 but quality no and there is no 6 coming through. There is no 10 period. There is very little quality on the flanks. I stand by what I said with Johnstone. He is IMHO way better then Ogbene for example. We have no right or left backs coming through of genuine top quality. Collins is decent yes. Omobamidele might be a decent center back but genuine top division quality he has not shown that so far. The GK situation I agree is actually quite healthy which considering how bad things are elsewhere is remarkable especially considering the depth we have there as well.

Totally agree with you with Kenny. It's time to move on. Hopefully with a new young progressive modern manager.

edit 2-1 Drogheda an absolute cracking volley by Rooney

STEVE BRUCE is being tipped for a shock return to football management with the Republic of Ireland.

The former Newcastle boss is out of work after being sacked by West Brom in the Championship almost a year ago. Now the former Manchester United defender is the bookies' favourite for the job across the Irish sea.

Stephen Kenny is currently the man in charge of The Boys in Green.

But pressure is mounting on him as Ireland's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 have been crushed. Ireland have suffered four defeats out of five games in Group B, losing to Greece, Holland and twice to France.

England U-21 boss Lee Carsley, who played 40 times for Ireland, is also among the favourites, according to Betfair, along with Chris Houghton, Neil Lennon, Anthony Barry, Keiran McKenna and Roy Keane.

Bruce, 62, was appointed Newcastle boss in July 2019 under Mike Ashley's ownership.
He went on to win just over a quarter of his games in charge as Toon struggled towards the bottom of the table.

He left amid fan protests in October 2021, with an £8million pay-off, before taking over at West Brom the following February.

But Bruce's time with the Baggies was a disaster, taking them from 6th to 22nd in the Championship in just eight months.
