Roy Keane is a * manager, i wouldnt want him to have the job at all. Adored him as a player though and it was unfortunate what happened in Saipan. People wanting Trapattoni to leave is ridiculous imo, football is about results and so far we have narrowly missed out on qualification for a world cup and have now qualified for the euros. So what exactly has he done wrong?

Do you have all day? Since you give little explanation to your judgements on how a manager is, let's just say: he's *.

You comparing Roy Keane to Giovanni Trapattoni? Seriously? Do you know what Trapattoni has won?

Don't be daft. I was pointing out how no one could answer you seriously when you're just going to call people * without backing it up with anything substantial.

I did. But football is about results as I said and as Ireland fans we cant really argue with qualifying for a major tournament. I too can get frustrated when he doesnt give players like McLean, McCarthy and even Stokes oppurtunities but Trapattoni has been around a long time and knows what players fit into his system (a system which has brought him great success).
Even if players like McLean and Stokes were played in the friendlies before the tournament, would it really make sense to put them in the starting eleven for the euros considering they didnt even play in one of the qualifiers?

Good comments from Dunphy. Feel exactly the same.

Instead we struggle along and have to be appeased with results over everything else.

We wouldn't struggle against Andorra, Armenia, Macedonia, and Slovakia.

Sure, we might get pumped by Russia and the likes. But that's happening, anyway! We are not performing well and are going no where as a team.

We would be similar result (wins etc. not scoreline) wise, but we would have more fun and excitement watching the games.

Well Trapattoni is definitely not going to change his system now so playing that sort of football would require a change in manager, what available manager would be able to come in and match Trapattoni's win % with good, attacking football?

Its not just the football its the horrible treatment of our players. Its well doumented that S.Ireland was ready to return to the team untill he got a phonecall from trap screaming down the phone to him in Italian. Not to forget his treatment of the two Reids,Finnan, Lawrence etc. He also is refusing to call up Marc Wilson, a young guy playing reguler premier league football for Stoke and has rejected NI to play for us, because he wants him to apolgose for being injured and not being able to play. I could go on and on all day but I cant be arsed. The guy is an arrogant * and the sooner he leaves the better. Hopefully it will be after the euros.

Yes thats why I wont trap to go.
It doesnt even have to be attacking football, just not traps football.
Chris Hughton could do the job.
Mick McCarthey maybe but I doubt he would go back.
Owen Coyle maybe at the end of the season.
There are many capable managers available.

I would take Hughton or McCarthy, but only if Trap was to leave.

Spain wont be, but Italy and Croatia should be.

We have had good teams over the years and tried to play a good brand of football and failed to qualify for major tournaments, so I dont get this attitude that we would have qualified under a different manager with attacking tactics, or that we have a divine right to qualify for these tournaments. Trapattoni has done a good job.

I dont know or heard anyone say we have a divine right to qualify for major tournaments. And its not about the football, its about his team selections and mistreating of our young players in paticular.I mean Paul * Green over James McCarthy. We may have qualified, but lets not forget how extremely lucky trap is. The luckiest man in football.

I didnt word that great, i meant a lot of fans expect us to qualify for them all when really we are over achieving by qualifying. My point is that the football he plays and his team selections are connected. Players like Whelan and Andrews will suit Traps style of play as they will provide the defence with a lot of cover and work tirelessly. McCarthy, even though he is probably a better footballer than them both, might not be able to do the job they are asked of as well as them. I dont rate Paul Green at all myself but Trapattoni has used him before and he suits Ireland's style of play more so than McCarthy.

Also, a lot of Irish fans seem to have the impression that Glenn Whelan and Keith Andrews are '*'. They aren't, Glenn Whelan was one of Stoke's main players in getting to the FA cup final last year and is still a regular starter. Andrews was scoring regular in the championship with ipswich this season and recently scored 2 in 2 for west brom. When playing for Ireland though it is clear they are told to shield the defence and creating is left to the wingers.

I dont see how he's mistreating young players by not playing them, he's the manager and he can pick whatever eleven he wants. You dont win 7 Italian league titles, two italian cups, a European cup, a cup winners cup, three uefa cups, and other leagues and cups with bayern munich, salzburg and benfica all by 'luck'
