We defended well for the majority of the game, the goal they scored was a cracker and we started attacking straight after we went one down, definitely deserved.

We defended pretty good really except for one or two instances, one being their goal where everyone backed off and basically invited Kroos of all people to have a free shot 20 yards from goal. Criminal.

To be honest, had some of our attacking players had a wee bit more composure, we could have got in a few times more. Only McClean in the attacking sense was properly on his game, put in a few good crosses and dangerous balls. Had Rudiger sussed.

When Hummels blocked Hoolahan's shot from a couple of yards I thought our big chance had gone, but when Germany thought they could sit back and hold the ball, we pressed them really well, made them make mistakes and consequently got our goal.

Huge result and I cannot wait for the Scotland v Ireland game. Could be a cracker. (but knowing us Irish and Scots, it will disappoint and end 0-0 :smiley-laughing002:)

Gutted I missed the game! Fantastic result. Can't wait to see us smash Scotland about 3-0 in the next game and go top! :celt_2:

Delighted for John O'shea in the last game I was saying he was past it because he was making too many mistakes against Gibraltar, but he turned back the clock tonight, great performance.

Funny Keane was bigging up Hendrick in his book, glad to see him provide tonight. Assists against the big boys are priceless and really show a players worth.

Three good results so far including a point from the most difficult match. Well done.

Yes and no same as the Scotland game against Germany was really. Germany should have been 2 or 3 up against Scotland and out of sight at half time but didn't and Scotland played brilliantly in the second half and deserved a draw with all the chances in the second half only to be screwed by the ref.
For us we created very little other then a few decent crosses and some good moments from McClean and McGeady. But we defended brillantly and other then some tight angled long range chances and one long rang effort the Germans didn't really create much. Even their goal was a long range effort. But credit O'Neill he made good subs with Gibson, Hendrick and Hoolihan coming on and 2 of them were involved in setting up[ O' Sheas goal. In fact only an amazing block inside the 6 yard box prevented Hoolihan from scoring about 5 minutes before O'Shea did.

So no Germany overall were the better team. But yes in that we defended well and they didn't open us open much and we took advantage in the last 10 minutes or so as they started to get nervous with the game still only 1-0.
