I've heard before that it has something to do with your body developing a dependence on alcohol. After a heavy session, the body thinks alcohol is an important part of its constitution, so when you stop, you experience a shock to the system.
Doctors tell alcoholics to wean themselves off drink, as opposed to just stopping right away, as it can be psychologically traumatic.
One of the best ways to circumnavigate The Fear is to have about 3-4 pints on a Monday night or Sunday if you're not going out. You'll sleep great and feel quite refreshed on Tues morning. -

Nothing worse than Sunday evening/night fear. Actually started laying of the spirits as I feel they make me worse.

Did a Thursday - Sunday stag do in benidorm recently. Never ever had fear before. Thought it was a myth lol.
Come Sunday, I was in a pathetic state. Kept feeling I wanted to cry, didn't know why though. Was an emotional wreck. Nerves had been shot to *. And had the fear terrible. :52: -

I went to the hospital once with it. Couldn't breathe right and thought I was a goner.
