Does anyone know if our performance this year will result in us once again being able to automatically qualify for the CL, instead of having a potentially tricky early season qualifier? This could have massive implications for us given that we are more or less guaranteed the title for the next three years.

No, that will never happen again any time soon.

Scotlands coefficient is meaningless to us.

All that matters is our own, which should be good enough to be seeded through the quallifiers.

we'll still have to play three games next year just to get back into group stage, wont we?

Sadly yes, but it could work in our favour (if we get through to the groups obviously) as it gives us the chance to accumulate even more coefficient points.

    Aye.

Imo too its actually better to play 3 rounds than 2, as the first one will be like bonus competitive games against weak teams we should easily beat. Will set us up better for the next ties than going straight into them(and they could be toughish games) from friendlies.

Unless we win it this season we qualify automatically. :icon_mrgreen:

    I'm not picky.
Yes because next season's European campaign was based from how the co-efficient system finished last season.

However well this season goes for us (and for Scotland games) will effect the 2014/2015 season.

Nothing will change because every other Scottish team is white and gets hammered in the qualifiers until that changes we will still need to play 3 or 2 rounds to get in

True, the showing of other SPL teams is routinely abysmal and there is no excuse really. If Shamrock Rovers can get to the group stages of the Europa they should be able to.

even if Celtic won the Champions League this season and we won every single game on the way, the national co-efficient would still only be 7.odd which wouldnt get us automatic group stage entry and is actually lower than it was last time we went into last 16 because der Hun managed the UEFA Cup final the season before.

Motherwell have done the worst to the co-efficient as they lost every game but they were still in Europe so the overall Scottish tally is divided by 5 even though only four teams scored any points. I think we have contributed 4 co-efficent points and the other 4 teams combined have contributed 0.3.

If you take Motherwell out of the equation St Johnstone, Dundee Utd and Hearts got 0.5 each and we have scored 20 points so total tally is 21.5. If Motherwell werent in Europe the Scottish co-efficient would be 5.375 but Motherwell have dragged it down to 4.3. Useless Lanarkshire *.

Next season there will only be 4 Scots teams in Europe which may be a blessing as the total tally is only divided by 4 rather than 5

If we win the CL we will go straight in that's the only way.

I know it's got nothing to do with us/Scottish football but look at Germany, on the verge of taking England's number 2 spot.

Celtic could win every single game and the Champions League and Scotland would possibly still not move an inch in the rankings.

A few folk were tweeting this earlier and it proves how absolutely woeful the rest of Scotland are in Europe. We have won 93% of our points this year.

APOEL gave Cyprus such a dramatic boost last season. We're doing similar to Scotland this year. Should make it an easier path for next season. :celt_2:

I've always used this site. Very well updated and gives you a good breakdown.

Doesn't look like Scotland are going to be in the top 15-20 leagues again any time soon. The overall coefficient points are being brought down this year by the face the other 4 SPL team didn't even get a win between them.

lol! i was about to ask this exact same question.

If Celtic do well in the Champions League in the next couple of years they could push the co-effienct up enough to gaunrantee CL qualification.

As you say we are very likely to win the league for the next 6,7 or maybe more years, so we could have a scenario where we are almost guaranteed CL football every year.

Thats the one I use as well and it usually updates pretty much after the games of the night are finished.

I cant see Scotland getting anywhere near the automatic qualification places unless the likes of Aberdeen or United etc can have a couple of good seasons.

We're doing our part. Its not our fault other Scottish teams * themselves whenever they see European opposition.
