"Huntelaar one of the best forwards in the world" talk about hyperbole :smiley-laughing002:

Madrid & Milan certainly don't agree with you as they off-loaded him after one season. However I take your point on board that he had decent competition.

My point was more to do with Celtic and our aspirations. If the likes of Pukki, Boerrigter, Tonev, Wakaso, Miku etc. are deemed not good enough for clubs of a comparative size then how would they help us improve and excel beyond them?

There's exceptions to the rule of course. Players leaving clubs that have players ahead who are genuinely the best in the world (Suarez at Barca and Mandzukic at Bayern are 2 examples that spring to mind).

Developing Goalkeepers as well, when the first choice has not done anything to deserve being superceded eg. Krul & Forster at Newcastle and Cech & Courtois at Chelsea at the start of 13/14 season.

For the record Atletico should not pursue Chicarito, massively downgrading.

I feel the same way, when he first signed i was buzzing and head bobbing like GMS but then he got injured in his first game against Ross County. Hardly seen him since and I don't think Ronny will play him again unless he's got a miracle cure for injuries :fear:

    :smiley-laughing002: I like him as a player, but that's a ridiculous statement.

Just because a player isn't getting a game at a good club doesn't mean they won't be a success elsewhere. We signed Hinkel because he wasn't getting games at Sevilla. Dani Alves was infront of him.

No, it's not. He's comfortably in the top fifteen strikers in the world. A couple of years ago, he'd have been higher. Perhaps I should've said striker rather than forward (to exclude the likes of Messi, Neymar, Sánchez).

    Ibrahimović
    Suárez
    Agüero
    Cavani
    Lewandowski
    Benzema
    Falcao
    Costa
    Tevez
    Higuaín
    Huntelaar
    van Persie
    Rooney
    Mandžukić
    Džeko

I just want him stay long enough to score a goal in the CL. Hearing 60k people singing the Boerrigter/Boa Constrictor song (albeit on the telly) is quite high on my bucket list.

The question really is this- would it be better to have opposing sides of the stadium singing the bass and falsetto parts or the top and lower tiers?

he averages a goal every two games for shalke and holland.he suffers a lot of injury problems.how many of these top 15 goalscorers have been doing it for the last 11 years like huntelaar has, and how many of these players are one season wonders.huntelaars only blips have been milan and real madrid one of which is the galaticos,he was mostly used as a sub at both teams.when he was fit and in his peak he was one of europes best goalscorers.

also ahead of van basten and bergkamp for goals scored for holland.think kluiverts the only one hes still to overtake for international goals.not saying hes better than them.

van Basten retired way too early too btw. But it's a bit weird naming them players in a Boerrigter thread though. Who started this nonsense btw? :smiley-laughing002:

That's no indication of his ability.

Oh he's great Vert, but not world class. van Nistelrooy....now that was a world class striker to compare him with a fellow Dutchman.

Boerrigter--->signings that initially looked promising but ultimately disappointed--->Pukki--->his time at Schalke--->Huntelaar--->debate on whether world class--->genuinely world-class Dutch strikers--->Van Basten.

It's either that or giant reproductive organs with Derk.

Much better than anyone we could ever hope of attracting in this climate - which is the point really. Pukki not starting for Schalke was no great shame.

Equally, to get this thread back on topic, a player who wasn't integral to Ajax's plans going forward might easily come here and improve our team.

Saying that we shouldn't buy players from clubs of that stature, because we aspire to reach that level, is ludicrous. Atlético Madrid are after Chicarito and he wasn't a regular starter at Manchester United or Real Madrid but he might be the difference for them next season.

Surely it's the key indicator of a "comfortably top 15 striker" ?

He scored in 1 league game from the 30th November 2014 onwards and had 0 assists in that time.

Couple of years ago he was up there, his season he scored 50 odd goals he certainly was. Similar to Mario Gomez.
