Why? Because he expects the club to either honour his contract or pay him a settlement fee to leave? What's wrong with that?

If he'd come in and done really well we'd be moaning like * if he was wanting out of his contract, wouldn't we? Why should it be any different when the roles are reversed?

because he's sat on the bench (most of the time not even the bench) and took a high wage. Also the fact all he posts on his twitter is pictures of him and his missus out on holidays during that time so he sure looked focused on returning to fitness and helping the team

His Twitter feed is neither here nor there, if the club allowed him to go on holiday then I see no problem.

Fact is, he's contracted to us for another year, and he's perfectly entitled to see that contract out, or if the club wish to move him on either find a club willing to meet his contract demands, or pay him a lump sum to leave.

difference is he's not in a normal job like you and I. He's in a job that is financed by the supporters so supporters are entitled to be angry when a half arsed injury prone player demands a payout.

And the twitter feed is, it's public image shows a lack of motivation to get back to the team

I never said the supporters shouldn't be angry, but he's perfectly entitled to either see out his current deal, or look for a pay off if the club want him off their books.

Unless you expect him to abandon a well-paying contract that still has a year to run and simply leave without the promise of another contract at another club?

It'd be handy if there were some kind of recourse for clubs to terminate a player's contract if they haven't featured in X% of a club's games that season. I know there's similar recourse for players (sporting just cause).

Can't blame him for picking up a wage he wouldn't get elsewhere.

Nah, that's not on. A player doesn't get picked or is injured and can have his contract cancelled? That's insane.

As I said, it works both ways. If he'd been brilliant (like Virgil) we'd be mumping and moaning about him if he wanted to leave, claiming he should honour his contract and suchlike.

Well, we should honour his contract. Either find him a suitable club to take him off our hands, or pay him a settlement.

I don't think it is. If one party has that available to them, so should the other.

you would happily see a law that allows employers to rip up an employment contract if an employee is injured and can't work for a certain percentage of the year?
