I would say the op was talking about players that can come straight into the team not young stars for the future.
Not matter how hard celtic look and no matter who we sign the bigger clubs in the europe will always be more attractive to them players we find.
We will always lose the good ones before they are at the best ages and we will always sell them for less than they would demand in the epl.
In short...we will sign 2nd rate players and win * all in europe......is that real enough for everyone.:50:

You think its a good idea to try and sign players from a league where the clubs have the transfer policy of building up players into serious world players down to an art form??

Once again I'll say this for the people that cannot read a post right.

We need to find world beaters BEFORE, BEFORE, they hit the big time. We do what the french clubs are doing but dont be looking around the french league when they are trying to sell good players for top dollar to bigger leagues.

Where we need to be looking is in leagues lower stature than the SPL and trying to find gems before clubs in Ligue 1, Seria A, La Liga, EPL, Bundesliga do.

Mate, the first post you mentioned the word 'before' in appeared after my last post had been submitted, so no need to act like that over this. I can see we are never going to see eye-to-eye over this so lets agree to disagree. 22,000 posts suggests a man who is celtic through and through and at the end of the day, we both want to see the whats best for celtic. I apologise for any insults I may have thrown around, I feel equally as passionate about our current standing in club football as you do.

Just think but. Obertan too Man Utd for £2.5 million . Very highly rated player in France and indeed over the world . We CAN afford players like that.

I like your optimism mate. I'd like to see them come over here as badly as you, but I just don't see it happening.:31:

I guess our biggest hope is for some very good player to use us as a gateway to the epl.three years would be better than nothing and we might make some money along the way.

Exactly mate, you think France is a place we should put our resources into and I dont because all the clubs in France have a transfer policy of finding talent keeping them until they can get €30M+ for them.

We cant offer them good weather, better standard of football, or even better wages without it breaking our wage structure. We will only be getting players of Fortuné and N'Guemo's standard which isnt much better than what we can get from any other league for the same money.

So no the answer to our problems dont point to France, they point to Eastern Europe but we need to improve our scouting network out there for us to make it a worthwhile investment. FC Ujpest is the starting point and hopefully it will work out for us.

Felt that ever since we brought in Lubo. Eastern Europe should be without doubt our market. Instead of paying ridiculously over priced transfers in the Spl and The championship. I think if the scout's done there business right we could replace everyplayer (except Boruc) in our squad with a players in Eastern European leagues and we would be over spending.

I agree that Eastern Europe is a place where we need to tap into to get some good bargains. But even clubs there are starting to sell there best players for fee's that are well above us. You just have to look at the likes of Dinamo Zagreb selling guys like Modric for £15+ and Eduardo for £8m+. Also clubs like Partizan Belgrade selling Stevan Jovetić for £7m and the likes of Shakhtar selling Chygrynskiy for £22m.

We need to find these players before the big clubs over there do.

i agree with eastern europe point.

i enjoy watching the national teams and club teams play in europe at times. dont get me wrong, some of them are pure *, but there are some hidden gems about.

i think what the clubs there do, is obviously when one of their youngsters makes a huge impact on the league, all top teams scouts just totally home in on the guy, and when that happens, they can gain the benefit of clubs having a bidding war for him, bringing his value up another few million
