I doubt anyone would ever have given Burns a negative reception.

Away ye go  we will see how the crowd reacts the first time he beats a full back to the byline.

The only thing that is idiotic if the happy clapping fools that will cheer for a guy that is trying his best to beat Celtic. Do you support Celtic or Aiden McGeady?

All opponents but he will recieve special treatment as we all know what type of player he is. Opponents used to love winding him up...now we're his opponents.

    You're verging on becoming a farce. :87:

Tommy Burns is a Celtic legend, Henrik Larsson is a Celtic legend. Aiden McGeady is a youth product that made us a few quid. The 3 are completely incomparable.

You continue to clap an opponent though, you'll be in the minority.

The bottom line is Mcgeady will get a round of applause when his name is read out by announcer pre-match.

As soon as he steps over the line, he is the enemy.

Hardly going to come out and not try his * is he ? Did you boo Charlie Mulgrew when he played for Aberdeen ?

Going out your way to boo an ex player seems sad to me. Not exactly going to be cheering him on myself, an applause before the game would be nice for him, but during the game he'll just be treated like any opposition player. If he dives or hacks one of our players, then fair enough but to single him out for boo's

This is the bit that gets me. A wee cheer for his time here, when his name is called and then treat him like any other player coming to CP. No need to go out of your way to insult a guy who did his best for Celtic and left on good terms.

See all those who are on the high horse, I bet you will all be in the crowd hissing life * when Spartak are on the attack in the final few minutes of the game - including when McGeady is on the ball.

Plus I bet many of you booed Mo Johnstone (an ex-Celtic player:bbpd:)

Nobody is there to support Aiden McGeady, we won't be supporting him or cheering him or clapping him. I'm just saying we shouldn't be booing him, like the people who booed Henrik Larsson. What you are saying also applies to people like Tommy Burns, who was trying his best when he was at Kilmarnock to beat Celtic, did he deserve booed or jeered?

What about Phil O'Donnell at Motherwell? or countless other good Celtic players who should be treated with a little bit of respect if they ever end up back at Celtic Park as our oppposition, the likes of Stillian Petrov (although that's extremely doubtful now). I don't know if it's just me but I think succesfull Celtic players, who gave us a lot of great times deserve a modicum of respect.

I know if I was sitting at Celtic Park and somebody booed McGeady for no reason I'd be * off, if one of they aresholes who were booing Henrik Larsson for no reason was sitting next to me I would have lamped him one.

    This, sums it up :50:

It's not a high horse. It's about respecting succesfull ex-players; booing Aidens the same as booing Larsson, Lubo or Tommy Burns.

And I will be one of they ones at Celtic Park doing that because that's about supporting Celtic but if there's 60,000 people only booing when McGeady has the ball I'd be dissapointed in Celtic fans really, as I was the night Celtic fans booed Henrik Larsson.

Henrik had everyright to shove it right in there faces after he scored but he chose the respectful route. It's all about respect.

You just reminded me of another one there. I mind it must have been atleast 5 years ago as I sat in my old seat, they used to read out the scores of other games either before kick-off or at half time. And they said im sure it was Aston Villa V Man U and Man U were winning 2-0 or whatever and people cheered :56: I thought they were cheering as O'Neill and Petrov were losing, but there just could have been a high number of Man U "fans" who knows.

Larsson and Burns' accomplishments efforts for Celtic engulf those of Mcgeady. Larsson and Burns are Celtic greats, nae, legends - McGeady most certainly isn't. He has done nothing to merit individual booing, but as part of his new team he is the opposition.

Larsson being booed is not something I can recall (and I was at the game), and booing of Burns is not something that happened as far as I know.

Like I say, if Spartak are on the ascendance in the last few minutes if Celtic are winning, or it's a draw, I can guarantee the majority of the stadium will be hissing and booing.

If it goes to penalties and McGeady is to take one, he will receive the same treatment as his team-mates.

Booing Aiden when he's playing for Spartak is not about disrespecting him, it's about trying to put a player off that is more than capable of denting our hopes of taking points from them.

Our support constantly backed McGeady throughout his time here, his song was belted out time and time again, he's well aware of how much we appreciated him and how much we respect him.

The cheer for him before the game will remind him of that, after that the gloves are off and the CP crowd will do everything in their power to tilt the game in our favour. That includes trying to put off one of Spartak's most influential players by booing.

    Absolutely.

Pretty sure we will hear some boos when he's diving like a Kamikaze pilot :86::56::56:

I think McGeady deserves to be treated with respect and dignity before and after the game (like 90% of our ex-celts).

When on the pitch he's a spartak player, an opponent. However I wouldn't boo him.

Can't understand people who boo him, but at the same time don't boo the rest of the Russian squad.

I think we're on the same wavelength here but approaching it from different directions. Probably due to the fact that I loved McGeady during his time here and you really didn't :56:

I know Larsson and Tommy are Legends and that Aiden isn't in that bracket, he was nevertheless a big part of some very succesfull years in the SPL and in Europe and a player that I can remember being an absolute stand out in that time.

Basically your last part is what I'm saying; I'd be dissapointed if people go out of their way to boo Aiden; we did do it to Larsson; for no other reason than that he was an ex-Celt playing against us. I wasn't there but I could hear it through the tele and I can mind being beyond furious I (almost just for a second) hoped he'd get it right up the * when he scored.

I think it's distasteful, I like a wee cheer for them when they go to do there warm up and then just treat them like any other opponent, going out of our way to boo ex-Celts who have done nothing to provoke us, who are still Celtic fans is just * spiteful.

Can anyone remember any players that got cheered who played against us?

I remember Ronaldinho got cheered off after a game, forget what game but I remember him being subbed and cheered. Also remember one time a Kilmarnock player scored a screamer against us and quite a lot of people including myself applauded the goal.

I will give him a clap when his name is read out in the line up - but once he crosses the line, the respect goes out of the window.

I don't think he should be booed, I just don't think he should be cheered either. He was an average player who happened to have played for us.

Now he plays for the team we'll be playing against, he's just one of their team. Doesn't deserve any special treatment he's just one of our eleven enemies.
