Hardly a good game to judge him. He never got much of a chance of getting out his own half. Messi would have looked * in that Ireland team last night.

He doesn't suit that Ireland set up at all. The 'wingers' in Traps 4-4-2 sit far too deep and have very little freedom. I reckon he would have been better sitting behind the striker, he's capable of travelling some distance with the ball on the counter and that could've worked for Ireland.

The 4-4-2 is what got Ireland there, so Trap was never going to change it up.

That Ireland set up makes McGeady look average.

Ireland have good enough players to be a more attacking team. They should change manager and play a team like

    Given
    Coleman O'Shea Dunne Clark
    Wilson
    McGeady Gibson McCarthy McClean
    Long

    I would like to see:

    Given
    Coleman O'Shea Dunne Clark

    Wilson Gibson

    McGeady McCarthy McClean

    Long

With McCarthy, McGeady and McClean having licence to swap positions at will.

Aye that set up looks better. They should get Jamie O'Hara to play for them aswell just for another option.

Does he have the option of playing for Ireland? How the * have they not called him up yet?

    I'm a big fan of O'Hara.

O'Hara has said he doesn't want to play for Ireland. I wouldn't want him unless he really wanted to play for us to be honest.

As for McGeady, its so frustrating watching him for Ireland knowing he is a really good player but he's just hopeless playing in the position he's in, most Ireland fans I know really think McGeady is * because of his performances for Ireland, very annoying.

Not sure if anyone has seen any of his stuff from Spartak Moscow. Video showing he still pulls out the tricks.

It's mad the team Ireland could have if they got players to declare for them, they could have had a team like this:

    Given
    Carragher Cahill Ferdinand O'Shea
    Fletcher
    Lennon Gerrard Scholes McGeady
    Rooney

BENCH: Westwood, Dunne, O'Shea, McCarthy, K.Nolan, T.Cahill, Keane

    Gibson McCarthy

    McGeady Ireland McClean

My personal preferred team for the next qualifiers, unfortunately cannot see it under Trap.

I think Dunne should be finished, has been a fantastic servant but St Ledger and Clark are much quicker and better passers, he was quite sloppy yesterday.

I'd prefer Coleman as a winger maybe, especially because I have unimpressed with McGeady, however the system didn't suite him, he was isolated a lot.

Long needs to come in, he is a goal scorer..... either him or Walters anyways. * and Doyle do not get goals and Keano cannot be relied on anymore.

Also Stephen Ireland is depending on whether he wants to come back or not.... if not him then Wes Hoolahan.

    Westwood

    Coleman Clark St Ledger/Duffy Wilson

    Gibson Treacy

    McGeady McCarthy McClean

but it cant possibly be because he is average? personally i think if your a good enough player, then you should be able to adapt

understandable really. international level is one of the highest levels you can play at. sure, he could do it at times(not all the time remember) at celtic, and im sure he can do similarly at spartak, but international stage is a whole different thing. if he cant perform well for ireland then maybe he just finds it difficut to make the step up

He done well at a higher level in the Chanpions League. Trappotoni likes to have his wingers further down the pitch as hard workers, to shield the lb/rb.

That's not McGeady's forte, hower at International level he is the highest assister in Irelands team. More than Damian Duff and Robbie Keane, if he could work on becoming more of a goal threat he would be a complete all rounder.

Unfortunately best Ireland player cannot be on a pitch, I am speaking about support...

As for goals, unfortunately he is not the best at shooting, so it will be hard for him, but he played few times as a connection between midfield and forwards and he was quite good.

But he is really impressive when he is supported by team as winger, he also easily changes sides (he plays as left or right winger and from time to time he was switching sides with another winger several times during the game) also McGeady moved quite often to the center to support forwards and it was quite effective.
