I agree it should be retired until someone proves to deserve it. It's a symbol.

what exactly has McGeady done for Celtic that shows he deserves it? He plays one decent game every 10 and he can't finish or cross, whilst being quite greedy and a one-trick pony

If they gave it to Bullard I would not be a happy camper. I hate him and dont want him here.. am I the only one? Injury-prone class clown prove me wrong

i think you will find that the best player ever to represent celtic fc wore the number 7 on his shorts not his back :87: and a few others ....
also king kenny wore this number (on his shorts ) along with 9,10,11 and 13 :celt_2::celt_2:
retiring a number is bullshit 20 years ago the only numbers you had was 1 to 13(if you were a celtic player) :50::50: a lot of teams never included 13 as it was unlucky and so went to 14 :56::56::50::50: as for wee huffy baws.... in old money he wouldnae be in the first 11 :47:

nobody played well last season due to a * manager, aiden keeps getting singled out. he shown once mogga went that he still had it and played well. out of our current team he is our best player, plus he is celtic through and through

I agree with the opinion that the #7 should either be retired, or at the very least held in reserve until a player proves his worth. It is unlikely that we will have a player of the calibre of Jinky or Henrik in our midst any time soon, but handing it out to the likes of Zurawski or Juninho merely because it is available definately diminishes the aura which surrounds that coveted number.

It's just a number. Wouldnt surprise me if they gave our 'BIGGEST' summer signing a double number, coz then punters pay more to get it printed, then the club makes more.

Nakamura 25 was the best example.
Vennegoor of Hesselink 10 - loads of money to be made.

At the end of the day, just because 2 people, Larsson and Johnstone, wore it, it must be special. That is 2 players in 122 years that have made the number there own. Where is the valid grounds for shirt retirement there?

I was a kid back in the 60's Jinky and the number 7 on his Celtic shorts were synonymous with great dribbling skills, attacking football, and Celtic Football Club...When the great wee man left us I would have been happy for the shirt to be retired there and then.....Larsson was a phenomenal player for us and a modern day Celtic Legend in his own right, but for me the number 7 will always mean wee Jinky.

    Number 7 Shirt

No-one has been allocated the No 7 jersey, surely we cant have a season without this number being used?
So, is it being held back for someone special ?? I'd like to think so.

The famous No.7 should not be given to anyone that can't live up to it's standards. Some might say it's just a number but it's more than that. It has to go to a player who is going to give everything, score/create the goals.

As Rosario said, could abd should be held for someone special

I understand the fact it has to be givern to someone special, someone who will not only give 120% and play for the shirt , but also has that something special, that little bit of skill that can destroy other teams.
But does it neccasairly have to be given to an attacker?.

Number 7 doesn't hold any significance to me anymore.
Should have been retired after Larsson.
Since then only Keane has deserved to wear it but the significance of the number 7 jersey was ruined by Juninho.

I really think that lennon has somebody in mind for it(it could really be bellers)

We all know how much bellamy hated leaving & not winning anything with us.the video with him at the airport with the hun shows how much he loved the hoops
