Pointless. There's no need for the man/woman to be taking up a full corner of the TV screen, translating the programme into sign language - only late at night or early in the morning. It serves very little purpose, it's just annoying.
It's another stupid law made up by the government. Why must 5% of TV be devoted to deaf people when anyone can easily get the old subtitles up on the screen? There must only be about 70,000 deaf people in the UK, with around 20,000 that know sign language well enough to read it from the tele.
Also, who chose to position the person in the corner of the screen? If a deaf person is watching him/her, they'll miss the programme! It's nothing but annoying, and it's not as if deaf people are nocturnal.
What purpose does the sign language person serve on the TV?!

They are good for staring at when your lying chewing the ceiling tripping right oot yer tattle
-
they must think that all deaf people must have insomnia
-
Aye, when infact it's me with the insomnia that has to put up with their nonsense. Even worse when the BBC put that daft box around the screen to make it even smaller. One of the daftest laws around - that and the law about "mince pies should not be eaten on Christmas Day".

Always found it odd though. They're only on late at night/early morning. As if the deaf society stay up late or get up early just so they can watch tv.
And why * have them on music tv? Yo can't hear the tune. You'd jsut be reading how much of a dirty cow Rihanna is. -

Reminded me about Uni, where we had a deaf girl in the class. Initially they had an interpreter standing at the front of class signing for her. When the lecturer swore one day, everybody`s eyes turned to the interpreter to see the translation. Childish yet funny.

what annoys me is when they haven't pre-recorded it and they keep turning round to look at the screen
