It's not the be all and end all but that level of consistency is something that was beyond many of the elite of the game, goals isn't all what counts. It certainly does count though.

Could that not be flipped around and used depending on what club team you play for though as well? If you are one of the top players in the world, the chances are you will end up at a club capable of winning the Champions League every season. You could be a top player in an average National team though and potentially never even play at a World Cup, never mind win it.

A * of a lot. Wouldn't discount Maldini as a true great because he wasn't a good goalcorer.

You can work your way up to these clubs, you can't work your way up to a different national team capable of winning a world cup.

If you aren't a great player you don't tend to hang about these clubs for long.

it's that type of attitude, that goals are what attackers are remembered by, which is the reason I say history will look down on Ronaldo favourably. People 50 years from now will be saying he was one of the best.

What makes you think he isn't? His selfish attitude is something that counts against him and he hasn't got the same type of magic as a Zidane but he's right up there in that type of company for me.

Nothing will ever compare to watching Zinedine Zidane gracing a football pitch, nothing......noone.....ever.

    Beautiful, majestic, magnificent!

I don't like the guy but he is definitely up there as one of the best.

However like Zander I believe he has changed his game massively in the past few years and in turn is no longer the same player who I used to love tuning in to watch.

I could watch Messi play for hours and hours. Ronaldo just stands in the box moaning half the time now if he doesn't get a cut back from Bale or Benzema for a 2 yard tap in. Messi has more to his game and in general is a more likeable footballer.

In the end it is an argument which will last the ages. * will still be debating this long after we are planted in the ground.

Well unless your talking about the Brazilian 'original' Ronaldo then im sorry but you are way off, and as much as Zidane was a class footballer he wouldn't even be in my top 5

    My apologies :50:

I agree with this as well, I just don't think it can be claimed he isn't up there.
