Well done America, at last a group of people have emulated what South Africa achieved back in '94. Long may it continue.

This election makes me wish Colin had run back in 2000 too.

Colin Powell is twice the man either McCain or Obama are. He has the experience of McCain and the calm demeanor of Obama. He just didn't want to run.

Colin isn't exactly infallible... he did * us all over at the UN with the Iraq deal. But he would have been an outstanding President.
I don't think he "didn't want to run", I think he felt the country -- maybe especially Republicans -- weren't ready for it.

Between American sports and now elections I think I'm becoming nocturnal. :icon_mrgreen:

Fantastic result for Obama, but it really had me scratching my head. How can the electorate have picked such an eloquent, well-read and intelligent guy only 4 years after re-electing a galoot like Dubya?

Could it be that too many Americans just did not take part in the democratic process in 2000 and 2004? I think Obama has done what I was beginning to believe that no modern politician could ever do again....get people excited about politics and the political process again. Make the process of voting current again.

The lesson to be learned is that if enough voters stay away through cynicism, complacency or sheer * laziness, then you get a leader like George W Bush.

If only we in the UK had our own Barack Obama.

I'm taken by this guy, I really am.

He has something completely engrossing about him that all great orators throughout history have had, you could sit and be compelled by what he says for hours on end. Today marks a complete swing in American politics and world stability for me, I pray he follows through with the promise he has shown up to this point.

Obama has made promises of change - lets hope they are positive changes and affect us in a good way. I certainly don't believe though that Obama will change thing much.

Who really thinks the President is teh one who makes the final decisions? There are surely men with huge power who pull the strings behind the scenes. The President is the puppet.

I hope Obama does well but I won't wait in anticipation. Different party same old government is a common phrase and one that is all too true.

I'm still so happy, stayed up waiting for the result to come in. Well worth it. A really brilliant, momentous day.

I for one, who lives in this country am fairly concerned having elected this untested one term Senator who hasn't brought about much (if any) signifcant legislation during his short tenure in the United States Senate and his leadership skills is a whole seperate issue for me. I am the first to admit he talks a good game and inspires a crowd better than most, but when it comes to doing the job and delivering in the clutch, where are the results? (probable answer: you'd be hard pressed to find them and most likely uncover a whole lot of rhetoric!)

McCain was not the best of candidates, and * knows Palin was the most vulnerable of running mates (I will still maintain that she is still a solid governor), but the Republicans just need to get on with it and concede this defeat.

Sorry to all if I'm not in the mindset of the typical person on this forum, and no FFS I'm not a hun undercover :icon_mrgreen:.
