    Aye they are called the Tattie holidays. As a kid I went 1 year and lasted 3 days, well I say 3 days I * off at lunch time on the 3rd day :giggle1: Child exploitation is what it was :56:

    Every day is a school day. Knew about the fruit picking and and tottie howking but had never heard of Tattie Holidays before.

    Away back years ago I can understand it, people had nothing but in recent years, that's tough going....just like kids being sent down the mines.

    I used to pick fruit with my dad, mostly wild growing fruit, brambles and damsons...he'd make jams. As for totties, well we never even did that except from our own garden.

    Yep, I agree. It falls into the same category as mince n tatties and therefore, the term tatties should only be used twice.
