Well at the start I was looking forward to him playing and developing but that hasn't happened even though I think he has good potential hes down the pecking order and IMO we need a cm brought in and he might be one to clear out before that happens but I hope he proves me wrong and starts getting games. :shamrock:

He wasn't good enough and never will be. Hopeless signing and a waste of time.

hi there! I'm new to the forum

he is definitely seen as a bright prospect in oz. When fully fit some of his performances were better than harry kewell at his peak but he wasn't able to sustain it for more than 30 minutes or so.

He performed noticeably better against asian clubs and asian international teams where the game is less physical and the referees offer more protection. There was a lot of concern in australia that the SPL might be ill suited to him since it is even more physical than australia (significantly more these days) and he sometimes seems to struggle even with the physicality of the a league. In his recent stint in the a league it was discovered that he could be rendered pretty ineffective if you double team him and tackle him pretty roughly (something you couldn't get away with in a less physical league). Even still he got a man of the match and was the best in the league in 1v1 takeons and was excellent at completing forward passes. He was also carrying an injury all last season until now so it is difficult to know where he is at

His most impressive attributes are that
-he can consistently beat a player 1v1 even if his back is turned. He is the only player australia has ever produced to date (including kewell) that doesn't need to receive the ball in good body position to be effective (excluding hold up play that old school 9's might do). The fact that he is such a large lad makes his dribbling even more difficult to
-his vision and decision making in tight spaces is very strong
-he is able to consistently break a line with his first touch
    - he can consistently break a line with forward passes

he is most effective in a pass an move type strategy where he gets a lot of protection from referees like you do in a lot of leagues on the continent or in asia. I fear he may not adjust to the SPL but I hope I am wrong

I hear the new coach has a different playing philosophy. Can anyone explain what his philosophy is? I wonder if it will suit rogic

Good post. Think he will come good under Ronny, especially with Commons taking time to adapt to the new system.

not sure on philosophy as its only been a couple of games but his preferred formation is 4 - 5 - 1 so there is an extra midfield berth available

So did celtic play 442 before? That wouldnt have suited him since he isnt strong enough defensively to play the point of a diamond and isnt a good enough finisher to play second striker but 451 suits him
I was reading about your new coach on wiki. He had 2 bad years then he dominated. This is typically what happens in the a league when coaches try and play a possession based style. If thats the case its brave of the board to implement that at a club like celtic which is already dominant in its league and probably would struggle to copewith a lean season or two for greater reward later. If he pulls it off itll be a tough couple of years but they might be strongerin europe in the long run as well as attracting better players.
Hard to tell without watching. ill be watching every minute rogic or irvine plays though

He is struggling with injury still. He was playing good football for Melbourne Victory and would have been in the starting line up for Australia at the world cup of he was fit. I think he could do the job for us but it all depends on injuries etc. I'd like to see him go on loan to again but stay in Europe

Give the guy a fair chance! People calling him "pish" and calling for him to be sold are nuts. He clearly has bags of potential and looks like he'll become a very good player, and hopefully for us.

He may have potential but the little bit we have seen of him in Scotland , he has been pretty poor , too one paced and too easily caught in procession by players who are not known for their speed .
Rogic is a perfect example of what is wrong with Celtic Football Club , too many average players that we hope will improve , but seem to stop progressing just short of the level needed .

High tempo, passing game. Focus on dominating possession, pressing high and closing the opposition down quickly. Seems to like players with a high work rate and fitness level. 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

I think that was partly to do with the set-up at Celtic. I think he'll do well under Deila.

The way the Aussies are talking, he might have the potential to be the best player to come out of that part of the world full stop... I don't think we can just give up on him after seeing him play - what? - less than a dozen games from the bench?

Really hope Ronny gives him a chance. He should get a game in Commons' position, just behind the striker. Think he suits that position the most, and surely his first touch is better than Commons'?

    Give him a go.

    He's a shitebag.

He can either knuckle down and hit the gym like Nakamura or just give in like Miku, Juninho and whoever else.

Technical ability isn't everything - Iniesta, Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez, Robben etc. are all kicked off the park at times but 5 minutes later you'll see them running at the same player wanting more.

I think he looks excellent technically, but mentally I'm not sure if he wants it enough.

Well it sounds like a system that rogic could thrive in which is very good news
