Celtic striker Maciej Zurawski has convinced manager Gordon Strachan to take a closer look at Poland team-mate Miroslaw Szymkowiak.

The former Wisla Krakow hit-man has recommended the Trabzonspor playmaker to the former Coventry City and Southampton boss, with Strachan due to watch Szymkowiak at next month's World Cup finals.

Strachan is keen to strengthen his Parkhead side before The Bhoys embark on next season's UEFA Champions League, with Zurawski being very familiar with the skills of his former Wisla Krakow colleague.

"I've given him a good reference," Zurawski told Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza.

"Gordon Strachan told me he would come to the Germany game.

"I would be really glad to play with Mirek again. We understand each other without words."

With the Poles to face Ecuador, hosts Germany and Costa Rica in Group A, Zurawski believes it is a stage for which his team-mates will try and show their wares.

"This tournament can help many of the lads change clubs," he added. "They will want to make the best impression.

"I'm not thinking about a move myself, but I want to do my best, strengthen my position."

I'd be very surprised if we struck a deal for Kranjcar, my understanding is he is a Central midfielder/striker, not exactly a position we need to strengthen, unless a suitable buyer for Petrov is found or Keane retires. Given we desperately need a couple of defenders i would have thought they would be a priority, then IF Petrov agrees to leave to another club ( which depends on the offers received ) we could pursue a midfielder. If Petrov stayed we'd have Keane, Lennon, Petrov, Pearson, Naka and potentially Kranjcar fighting for a CM slot. Given that in defence we have only 5 real options ( Telfer, Wilson, McManus, Balde, Caldwell ) i hope we don't spend a large chunk of our budget on a luxury.

Lennon and Keane will be seriously looking at retirement by the end of next season, Petrov will leave this season or next. A good CL run will up his transfer fee. Get him now, may not get a similar chance next summer.

He may not be a signing for this season, but maybe GS is looking beyond the next season.

I know what you are saying Dempsey but it may be that by signing him it limits our funds for other areas. The other thing is you may be signing a 4mil euro player who can't get in the team! Is he better than Maloney, Keane, Petrov or Naka? If not it would be madness to sign him. There will be other players next summer to replace Keane, as for Petrov, a lack of interest from "big" clubs could make his mind up to stay. We must strengthen the defence FOR NOW imo.

I'd be happy with Ladlec because as someone mentioned above we are quite short on quality defenders. But i'm not too bothered by Krancjar. I'd rather see Pearson or even Riordan get a shot behind the strikers. Or even better - if Denilson signed maybe put Maloney behind the strikers!

    Zurawski........Hartson
    .............................
    ...........Maloney........
    Denilson...........Naka..
    .........Lennon...........
    ..............................

    Subs: Riordan, Pearson, Keane

This is all assuming Petrov goes but of course I hope he stays!

Celtic should make a move for Huth, £5.5M he would be worth it. I do believe Kranjcar would prove himself

that the shitest team u could of mentioned!
for one keane is 10times the player lennon is moron.
If Denilson joins which he wont and Petrov stays which I think he will the foward line would be something like

    -----------------------------Zurawski-----------------------------

    --Maloney----------------------------------------------- ---Denilson--

    ------------------Petrov----------Keane------------Nakamura----------

Yes big fan of Huth, but the sad fact is we can't afford that, even if IMO it would have been worth.

I have only seen clips of Kranjcar and he seems tall, quick, fast, skilful and a good finisher.

I have heard Pete Lawell saying "We just don't fancy that". But this could be a tactic to lower the price for him, lets hope so.

Celtic should still go after him even if his Agent is playing hard ball.

DMC. Keane (If he stays, we could get one good season out of him.)
MCR. Maloney (Pushing to right wing.)
MCL. Denilson (Pushing to left wing.)
MC. Petrov (I think he might stay if we sign some promosing players.)
SS. Kranjcar (Could play just behind Magic, cause all sorts of problems.)
FWD. Zurawski (World class finisher, will get the job done.)

Great team, altho no Naka, but hat shows u the depth of squad we can have.

I agree that we need 2 quality CB's, like Kuffour. But JK is coming back, he is a top defender.

We wud have a squad IMO capable of doing well in the CL. We still wud have quality like: McGeady, Hartson, Pearson, Naka on the bench

KevF2416 and Davybhoy it really gets my goat when people slag of Neil Lennon. Along with Petrov he currently has been our most consistent player of the past 5 years. I know Keane on paper and on his day is perhaps twice the player but face it - it isnt his day, and he spends much of his time in the physio room. Furthermore he has already voiced doubts that he will be fit to last another season. Why is it so hard/outrageous to suggest that Lennon will be here next season and Keane won't. Don't get me wrong I love Roy Keane, but even if he is here next year I guarentee there will be injury problems.

Why did you put Denilson in your team if you already know he wont be signing?

Also with 4-6 strikers in our squad do you really think we'll be playing a 4-5-1. Perhaps you should keep the moron statement to yourself.

Absolute nonsense, Lennon has been consistant and negative at times yes, Petrov never ever could finsh well considering the chances he has had at scoring goals, he often a few season ago would go AWOL, he does NOT have good pripheral vision, he is a hard worker and a trier, and a fairly good fitba player, but certainly never was nor never will be a consistant player of any great proportion.
Watch and see who comes running to sign him, and for how much.
Please dont tell me this team and that team want him, till it happens, remember if your granny had balls so to speak as it were to coin a phrase! :84:

I'm sorry I'm just gonna have to flat out disagree with you about this. Name me a more consistent player than Lennon Petrov (obviously not Larsson now ;) )

Petrovs work rate is outstanding, he scores goals and makes them. If Petrov never voiced his want to leave do you think people would be digging into him now? Get real.

Read my post I said he was consistant, only added in a negative way, he has that tendency, havent you noticed?
I am real, I have said for seasons that Petrov went AWOL, also said for seasons he didnt have good peripheral vision, not in this forum, but in others namely superscoreboard clyde 1, and the old firm fans forum.
If you ever read me saying something you can take it to the bank I have always said it!
I would keep Petrov he is a verygood hustler, and the old saying holds with me, the world loves a trier.
However he will never be world class, CL yes but even then he will have to fight for his Celtic position, give me Keane and Nakamura anyday! :86:
