Dont see a point in putting a square peg into a round hole (maybe a harsh comparison as he does a job) just to accomodate them, as in doing so the player is ruined and the balance of the team suffers. He played through the middle for dundee utd. Id far rather see an out and out left midfielder play in that position and have armstrong play centrally or compete for the central position. Even if he doesnt make the starting squad, at least as a substitute, both Armstrong and the players playing in his position will be forced to perform and maintain a level.

I'd like to see Armstrong played through the middle against County and Johansen rested but it'll never happen.

Armstrong seems happier coming inside, which is a decent option league and cup, but in Europe when we need to stretch teams and pull a "parked" defense sideways...then he has either to improve his game or give someone else a go.
Personally I think he will improve his game...that's why we have a coach to develop the players..

Doesn't do enough for me to be honest, seems a little over rated by some.

I can see him becoming a scapegoat for people if we have a dodgy patch.

Agreed. Bar about 5 games since he signed he's been anonymous. (Granted one of them was against Inter)

    Not *, actually anonymous.

I get it's not his position, so don't * play him there. Play Stokes or get someone else in.

Armstrong should be competing with Johansen for the CAM spot.

I agree he's been * in the majority of games.

But he's been out of position about 90% of the time. No chance will I judge him on that.

Look how bad Johansen was deep in midfield. You'll never get the best out of a player in an unfamiliar position.

I think it more than being played out of position with Armstrong as he has played a lot of games successfully for Dundee United on the left wing, but I agree I feel his best position is central, however that dozen't take way from the fact that he has been Mr Invisible this year, and dozen't deserve to be in the team on current form, but he does have nice hair :smiley-laughing002:

Poor Stokes getting fucken pillored from post to post, while Johansen, Armstrong and GMS are blue eyed stick ons with Deila.:31:

I can see why he plays out wide in our system because of his passing and ball retention skills he's effectively an attacking midfielder play out wide which is quite a modern thing where one of your wide men is effectively a playmaker to help with the possession side of your game and the opposition flank consists of a more direct option in GMS. Still think long term Armstrong is a centre midfielder and is in line to replace Brown.

I loved that man. Always remember his delightfully deflected goal against Shaktar Donetsk. Class.

As for Armstrong. He'll come good. I rate him highly. He's still so young at 22. He can become something special.

He has been invisible, he doesn't really have much of an eye for goal or a decent shot, pace isn't his main attribute.
Ok he's maybe solid and can pass a bit but in his position behind a lone striker more is required.

The jury is out at this stage, I'd have stokes ahead of him at present.

I seen that him and Ciftci went to the Dundee Utd v Aberdeen game today. Nice touch but I could think of better things to do with my Sunday:smiley-laughing002:

I thought he did very well in his preferred position against Ross County. Loves a one-two.

Armstrong is a very good player, he keeps the ball well and keeps it moving. He also gets involved in some very nice moves around the box and tracks back very well. He's being played out of position right now but he still adds something to the team and will be a big player for us in the future.

Clearly they're waiting for their step up to Derek McInnes's Aberdeen side, still have a lot to prove before they get up to that level though.
