It was a non-offer. Celtic knew that bid wasn't going to be accepted.

Our first team squad anyway. He'd have to earn his place like everyone else.

probably no but would be a good addition to the squad, would be good back-up for brown or johansen or could play wi brown if bitton was out and would challenge stokes/griffiths/commons/forrest/henderson for the 2 wider positions mostly

I don't think we would even need to pay 2.5m for him, never mind more than that.

I see the bid earlier basically as a way of saying we won't pay what they want, and will hopefully find a middle-ground.

Going for round about 2.5 or less for both Armstrong and GMS.

    Here's hoping.

From what I saw today Stokes is a conference player. Armstrong is leaps & bounds better.

EXCLUSIVE: Dundee reject bid from Celtic for Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven

DUNDEE UNITED last night knocked back a near £1.75million double offer from fellow League Cup finalists Celtic for Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven.

Express Sport can reveal the champions tabled the bid yesterday after they had beaten Rangers to book their place in the final against Jackie McNamara’s men.
It is expected that the champions will try again before the close of the transfer window tonight – but business is unlikely to be done unless their double bid is vastly improved.
Celtic failed in a potential £1.5m deal for midfielder Armstrong last week, as did Premiership Burnley, while Ronny Deila has already agreed a pre-contract to sign Mackay-Steven for nothing in the summer.
United are unlikely to sell unless they get £2.5m for Armstrong and £250,000 for Mackay-Steven, while Norwegian Deila also has another live target from his homeland if those deals fail to come off.
United, who beat Aberdeen on Saturday, also have to weigh things up because if they sell Armstrong and/or Mackay-Steven then it would severely weaken their attacking options for their League Cup final date with Celtic – as Nadir Ciftci is already suspended for the final on March 15.

You think that an increase of £100,000 is acceptable?

We have to be seen to be doing something.

At least give them something to think about. Offer them £2m and test their resolve.

So we essentially bid around £1.5 million for him, had it knocked back, then bid the same again.

    Genius.

2million and a fringe player on loan would tempt them

Never said it was acceptable but I very much doubt we never thought it would be accepted. We're just being tight arses. We'll probably go up in 100k increments from now on. Personally I think he's worth the 2.25 to 2.5mill (max). For all his potential he's still on the periphery of the national squad (has he even made an appearance?) despite his tally of first team games and I'd say that's more than a fair price.

We shouldn't be * about again on this.

£2.5m is a very, very fair deal IMO for two * players with great potential who could immediately come in and make an impact.

We have spent more than that on one player from abroad who has turned out to be a dud in the past.
