I think this is a real test of the board this summer. We are straight in to the group stages of the CL this year so they can accurately forecast what our income is going to be. WGS has got them three out of three and is entitled to have some financial backing.

I realise that we, as fans, always want big signings and the board have to deal with financial reality but with the £15m profit we made last year I think most of us would rather see us with a £5m profit and £10m more of talent on the pitch. The board have got to back Strachan this summer.

Strachan MUST be backed with serious cash. He has earned the right to this sort of money by his success in the league and Europe, and if we are to move forward, he has to get the backing of the board to the amount required to do so.

Standing still is not an option for us.

lol think positive darren, hes not really had loads to spend and he not done to bad. except Virgo ill give you that one.

Magic had a good season, Jarosik came with a good pedigree as did Donati and who wasnt happy when we signed Brown last summer

The real test is the net spend. No point in spending if you sell off the same value and weaken the squad elsewhere. People were fooled by the big money spent on Brown and the much exaggerated Donati fee. Our net spend was small over the last while with players like Maloney, Miller, Stan, JJ, Magic and others going out over the last two years. Profit isnt touched by spend if there is little net spend. So what is the point in profit then? Where is it going? The main point of profit and indeed the club is surely to entertain the fans. I wasnt to see a big real spend, not a big net spend. If Artur goes for 12 million and we spend 15 million thats SFA spend and capitalist pocket lining IMO.

I think the board realised the net spend had been stingy in January and had risked everthing and released a little (not much) extra that made a difference. IMO we wouldnt have won the league without Robson or super-sub Samaras.

I think the board have got off very lightly recently. Set the net spend against the profit over WGS reign and I would guess its not impressive backing with profit being considerably higher. In MON reign there was a big real spend. Its time for the board to stand up and give WGS at least 15 million (he has earned us 12 million CL money for next season as well as last years) regardless of outgoing sales. If they dont, I think focus of fan attention needs to go on the board more than WGS. We clearly are weak at LB and CB and we need quality competition at CM, CF and winger. Sorting that would make us a great side. That IMO will cost around 20 milion quid. Come on the board. Dont let us down again.

I agree Donati wasnt the best, but what im saying is he came with a good pedigree, and he did start the season ok.
But my point here is lets back the wee man with as big a budget as we can, also gave him the budget plus everything he brings in from moving players on.
Then we can judge his signings during the season not just say "dont give him to much or hed just waste it"
For * sake the wee man just delivered the title

I don't think the board will this time. I think & hope they learned thier lesson after Seville. They know we must strengthen big time because the huns will in the sumemr to catch us up. Strachan is very good in the transfer market and that is one of the reasons he was brought in. His track record is quite good in the transfer market over the eyars at Coventry, & am sure Southampton too.

Correct me if im wrong but Donati scored an injury time winner at celtic park when we were playin Shakhtar Donetsk and had we not won this game, might not have got to the last 16 and have this money to spend

think you need to look at that goal again. Donati's gial was well taken goal and didn't hit his *. He is a good player, Just hasn't settled here. His goal against Caley was a cracker.

Gie the guy a break. It's his first season in a foreign country. he'll come good. He needs backing from the fans. I remember a player who got the exact same sitck when he signed and gave the ball away a bit too much at the start. he turnd it around. Donati aint a goal scorer.
