We were second best to Rangers when he came, he's took over the mantle of champions and kept it for 3 seasons.

I think he deserves a wee bit more respect than he's receiving.

I doubt mon had anything to do with boruc or naka. that sounds like pure anti-wgs propoganda. was naka not an october signing long after mon had gone?

mon was notorious for being lazy when it came to scouting/watching any players and he only signing ones he already knew well or were well known EPL players or he saw when we were playing against their teams. The only bargains of any quality he ever signed were Agathe and Balde.

All the rest were chequebook signings. Basically MON went in his first year to the EPL and bought Sutton, Hartson, Thommo and Lenny for big money to add too a great group of players like henke, lubo, lambo, petrov, mjallby, jackie etc he inherited, After that, when there was less money, he was very poor in the tranfer market, suggesting that he would have not done well in the financial situation wgs found himself in.

Naka agreed to sign shortly before we got pumped out of Europe by Artmedia.

For those of you with a hard-on for Roy Keane, please see the below facts taken from transferleague.co.uk

£65 MILLION SPENT - How many would get into the Celtic first 11?

Personally would take Malbranque, Ferdinand and McCartney (think the website got his spelling wrong) - but not for the £20 million that they cost. Think closer to £5 million ffor the 3 of them would be a fair price.

In summary though Roy Keanes £65 million in 2 seasons was dire, woeful, shocking.

Get a grip Roy Keane fans.

Oh sorry if that thread of logic had been walked down before - I've not read all this thread and I'm trying my best not to react but certain posts are pretty hurtful to the club as a whole.

I basically see a lot of sense being put across from mmmikey's and Gunt's posts that far too many are just refusing to see. A reality bypass is really not helpful regarding what we can and cannot spend. Just because we want something to be true doesn't make it so.

personally i hope gs goes at the end of the season, dont know who would take over. i would prefer moyes, but realistically that wont happen. i wouldnt have oleary or keane. in fact i think owen coyle would be a far better bet than any of them

Roy Keane?? Are you all having a * laugh??

He isnt capable of managing Celtic given the requirements needed to manage up here. He couldnt build a EPL team with a blank cheque book, what makes any of you think he could manage to win anything with limited resources?

mate we're arguing about agreeing. i brought that up cos i've seen it online a couple of times with folk using it against strachan. i agree with you its bollocks, my point was that these same people are the ones who criticise strachan for signing camara yet credit o'neil for the other two. as i said in my original post how does that work?

strachan has done a great job for us but it is obvious he is going to be questioned over our current form, 3 wins from 10 is simply not acceptable nor is squandering a 7 point lead. what a lot of people seem to be neglecting is who we would bring in if he was sacked. if things don't improve over the next while then yes we need a change likewise if strachan proves himself unable to unite the dressing room which the media would have you believe (since when did we listen to the scottish press?) is either split or dissenting against strachan.
when you look over his record over the last 3 seasons coupled with the standard of guy we'd be bringing in then i really don't see how you can be calling for his head at the moment though i have to say my patience with him is more stretched than at any point in his tenure.

Celtic is responsible for scouting network that spotted these guys. How many months was Strachan working with MON before MON finished. Strachan was passed the reigns in many aspects of the club before he actually officially tookover from MON. You can bet the house that next seasons signings were left upto Strachan. I'm sure I can find such information to back this up via google if need be.

Fully agreed with the rest of the post too. Lets not let nostaglia gloss over the facts of MON's tenure and attempt to make him out to something he clearly wasnt. This has been constantly done to criticise GS which is stupid

WGS has signed something like 15 midfielders and we're reduced to playing our best defender, when we are already poor defensively, in midfield.

That's not good. The reality bypass works both ways.
