And with the most expensive squad we'd ever put together.

There's no point comparing the MON/WGS eras. It's like comparing every manager to Jock Stein. We wont get anywhere because no one is going to compare with them in our eyes, ever.

Wim Jansen not only won the league to stop ten in a row but gave us tims one of the best bits of rythming slang ever...............

"are you goin up the Wim Jansen?" = "are you going to the Dancin?"

ah those were the days eh? our strikers now make harald braatback look like pele!

I think 'with the exception of Jock' is pretty meaningless since he was the best my miles. Also do not forget that our second most successful manager in a 3-4 year period (3rd most successful over all) has been WGS. So you have Maley and O'Neill on the culturally traditional side and Stein and WGS is the other. These are the 4 greatest managers in our history and sort of cancel each other out.

However, the long list of traditional background managers who had very modest achievements in between is what really shows that the traditional route has not served us well. For every Maley and O'Neill have had several Brady, Macari and other failures and to be honest the majority of traditional background/ex-Celtic player type managers have been failures (Brady, Macari, Burns, Dalglish and others in the early days) or fairly modest (McNeill, Hay) in achievements. With the exception of Maley and MON it has not served us at all well. In fact, take those two away and look at the combined trophy hall of all the other 8 or so traditional Celtic-background managers and its pretty * depressing given we have been around for 120 years.

On the other hand our only two Scottish non-Celtic-connected/background managers are our 1st and 3rd most successful of all time, a sort of 100% hit rate. In fact those two never lost a league in their combined 12 seasons in charge which is perfection.

So, I think the arguement for the traditional old bhoys route does not exist.

Also, on a point of principle, its not right to award jobs based on aspects of your background that has nothing to do with your ability.

Jock Stein was Captain, that's a bit of a connection.

Not that it matters. A good manager is a good manager, letting a persons background influence opinion is dangerous and stupid.

That is exacrtly the point I am making. If people stopped thinking like that you would never hear nonesense like Collins, Mogga, Hughes, McGhee etc.

When Strachan does go, none of those will get the job. spot on Gunt.

Will say it again when Desmond wants someone he will get his man. :50:

Give you 3 names i am sure one will be the next celtic manager.

    1) David O'leary
    2) Roy Keane
    3) Louis" van Gaal

Keep the faith wgs, but nothing lasts for ever.

This is how it feels to be Celtic
Why don't we get John Barnes again?
Or Liam Brady? Or Lou Macari? Sacking a guy who has won us the title in every season he has been at the club is the brightest idea anyone, anywhere could have. :31:

we all know hes won us the titles henke and we are all as happy as a pig in * about that

we want to remain champions and watching this dire team crumble before our eyes is heartbreaking its scandalous and its wrong

as said in a previous post by myself in the last 10 s.p.l matches if you convert the points won in to a leauge we would be lying in 6th place behind the likes of hamilton accies, motherwell, dundeeutd, ect ect

it wasent to long ago we were in the top 16 of europe twice in a row

whats happend since then ,the fall from grace is phenomenal thats what people cant understand ,from being so close to a last 8 in the champions league to freefall in the spl

people have the right to ask why, people have the right to want a change

    dont you think

the rate celtic are going they wont need to enter a reserve team in the second division

Theres no pleasing everybody unfortunetly its a high profile position I think he has done a fantastic job with the resources that were made available to him the last manager at CP to achieve 3 in a row was Jock stein.

Folks say he should go now why ? that would upset the team even more bringing in a new manager with new ideas during a critical stage of the season bad idea.

He in my opinion will go at the end of the season and I for one will say well done you acheived something great regardless if we win a 4rth title.

Whats Mr John Reids role in all this ? he has been very quiet ex politician an all that theres no smoke without fire my bets on him having a hand in all the backroom animosity.

It was Strachan who took us to the top 16 of Europe twice in a row. We have hit a bad run of form since and surely he has earned the right to have another pop. Why are people talking like we have lost the league already when we are top equal?

"phenomenal fall from grace" "SPL freefall"????

What is this freefall? Again we are top equal. Yes we have dropped points but I believe this will be the end of it. Strachan has earned the right to have a go at turning this poor form around in fact we OWE it to Strachan to give him the time to win us the 2008/2009 championship.

Let's get behind Strachan and the team while we are still absolutely 100% in a fantastic position to win the league.

This is all I can say on the matter as the * I've been reading on the forum is hysterical at best recently.
