It could have been in euros but I can definitely remember 4.6m and that's why I was really looking forward to seeing him. But even besides jozo I think between 3 and 5 would be grand for caulker especially considering we are getting rid of and have got rid of some dead wood already

    I'd definitely take him.

If it is a choice between him or Duffy then there is only one winner for me.

I would well prefer Duffy. I think Caulker is vastly overrated, he's as slow as anything reminds me of him thats training with Sevco actually Onyewu, big and strong but no pace and very average at defending or on the ball.

Duffy actually seems fairly mobile for a big guy and a good defender maybe better on the ball too.

He's not slow mate. At all. Not rapid but definitely not slow, when was the last time you seen him? He's good in the air, strong and an imposing guy at 6ft 3. He's the same age as Duffy but has a lot more experience at the top level.

What are you judging Duffy on as well? The games at the Euros? I'd have thought he wasn't your type of player at all. Looks a bit cumbersome to me even when I've seen him with Blackburn.

Judging players on a few games at a one off championship can be dangerous, as we know.

If he comes in I'll back him but I believe Caulker is the better, if more expensive, option.

When he played for Southampton against Liverpool is probably last time I mind him, think they were pumped 6-0 or something and he was caught out for about 3 or 4 of the goals. Although I mind him coming on up front for Liverpool in a game too.

He's always looked really slow to me on the turn, very heavy footed like hes carrying too much upper body weight..

Last 2 seasons he played in the EPL his team were relegated as bottom of the League I think, loan spell at Southampton he barely got a game and was holwing, went to Liverpool and they only ever played him up front.

I don't really want Duffy either but he did look quite good at the Euros, reminded me a bit of MacAuley of NIreland whos been a decent player in the EPL for probably a decade, decent enough on the ball, mobile enough and done plenty of good defending.

    Fair enough!

Ideally I'd have liked us to go for another Sviatchenko type signing and avoid England altogether.

Better value elsewhere. It does look like Duffy is going to be the man to come in though so I'll back him.

One thing I will say is, you know he will always give 110% for the cause. Which is something that cannot be said for many of our players last season. Also seems strong in the air as you'd expect from a guy at 6ft 4. Hopefully he can do a job.

Agree too, id prefer someone foreign like Sviatchenko.

That game I was talking about

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuhYbfI_lTQ[/ame]

2:55 caught out by Sturridge and for pace, gets back then let Sturridge shoot like Kiernan against Stokes in the Cup final... goal

3.55 plays Sturridge onside, ball over him to Sturridge... goal

8.26 again too deep playing Origi onside, again too slow lets Origi run away... goal

10.47 dragged out to right back, gives the guy space to cross... header goal

In general his positioning is woeful in all the clips of that game. He could also have stopped the 5th goal where he ran across but just stood as the shot went inches past him, had he ran and slid in front or jumped infront hed have stopped that as well and in another clip near the middle of the video he lets a guy turn him in the box and hit a shot which Van Dijk blocks.

He's always stuck out to me as someone whos awful, since I first mind seeing him at a youth tournament for England where he was getting tore apart in every game. I dont know how decent teams keep signing him although to be fair to Koeman and Klopp they never really played him so must have clocked he was pish in training.

Sturridge and Origi are hardly slow though, basing it off one game is daft.

Aye in fairness that is one game.

Where Southampton were diabolical. Can remember watching it and Van Dijk didn't cover himself in glory either.

Plus, I'd have expected him to be miles off the pace. He hasn't been given the chance to play regular football in a year and a bit.

In terms of those first couple goals although he didn't do great, the right back is at fault for the second Sturridge one, IMO. In general, as the commentators say in the video, what are the tactics all about as well. After they went a couple down it just looks like Koeman lost it. Whole team is out of position.

Get him fit and firing again and he'd be a solid signing.

Aye, im not just basing my opinion off one game though, there are probably comments posted by me slagging Cardiff, QPR, Southampton and Liverpool for signing him as i've not liked him for that long :56:

My best mate is a spurs fan and always rated him quite highly, was surprised when they let him go.

He's had spells when he has shown there is the potential for a top defender in there and then spells where he just looks like he isn't going to develop further. I'd like to put it down to just not being settled with one team for long enough over the last couple of years.

A year loan with an option to buy would be a good move. He would be an upgrade on all of our defenders except Erik and if he plays well enough then we take the option and have a solid CB partnership for a couple of years at least

i like the sound of this guy. I like that he's one of Rodgers' boys, suggesting he'd be committed, also like the sound of his style of play. BR obviously rates him, the guy seemed to have the best years of his life under him so we could see a return to form up here. Similar story to Kelvin Wilson when he came.

Why did he struggle to get in the QPR team? Seems like the sort of player we should have taken a punt on before he went to Dundee in January. If we paid £1m for him AND brought in someone else I think I would be fine. Maybe bring him in at the end of the season for free.
