I dont want him anywhere near the starting XI. Would 100% play Abilgaard even though he's not even played a game. That's how bad Welsh actually is.

If he start, we WILL lose goals on errors he make. Might sound harsh to slate him like * but it will happen.

Some support the boy is getting ahead of one of the biggest nights of his career.

Keep it simple son and keep your eyes peeled at all times on your man. Need the solid, no-nonsense performance that he's capable of on his day.

The one thing you do have to consider in that argument is Porteous is a regular first team player, all be it at a poorer team than Welsh but he plays week in week out. He also has attributes which Welsh doesn’t the main one being a physical presence and both Ukrainian options at striker were big guys.

The other thing is Porteous’s nonsense off field and temperament in games makes him seem worse than he actually is week in week out. For example he has the best passing stats of any CB in the premiership this season so far. When he is given a task to stick to in a defensive shape he is normally ok as long as he doesn’t get emotional and do something rash like dive in.

More importantly on Welsh, I do think he has his issues mainly physical in that he simply gets bullied by larger players as he doesn’t have the height or in the absence of that mass to handle that. He can actually be good on the ball but seems to be hesitant to at times and that is likely a confidence thing.

The ball for Maeda against Motherwell and his play in the Ross County and Aberdeen games this season are good examples.

My biggest issue with Welsh is I think he has a pretty low ceiling in relation to Celtic. I can’t see him being a starting centre back in the future, the best he will likely ever be is a back up player and then we need to ask ourselves is that good enough or does it block us signing or developing someone better? Especially when there have been reasonable offers made for him.

For Welsh we have an issue I touched on in the Maeda chat which is about balance of options in the squad for a given position. Of all our CBs the only one who really looks comfortable in being the physical and commanding defender is CCV. Now he’s injured it is showing a real issue for us in having a lack of physicality back there. Ironically and looking at the argument you have made about the Scotland squad and Porteous over Welsh, you could probably say the same that given our other CB options, Celtic would be better having someone like Porteous as an option rather than Welsh.

Before it gets said, I am not saying we should sign Porteous but this injury to CCV has shown we really could do with having at least another physical CB option rather than the ones we do as cover.

Celtics proposal was he'd go back b4 end of the month until end of season. Morton didn't want him back

I think this could be Welsh's last chance to show us if he can really become a Celtic player we can rely on. Just got to remember that quite a few Celtic fans (including me) had written Taylor and Ralston off not too long ago.

Warner and Nkunku's pace would be a worry even with our full strength back line but there's no getting away from it.....it's a concern..

Jenz and Welsh don't look a good partnership at all either..

    Let's hope this makes him..

Against Werner and Nkunku, Welsh's interception ability is actually useful. They are not overly physical, just fast.

Nae bother mate, here's one just for you:

Once there was a milking goat that Double Dutch fancied very much. As he was reaching round for a feel of it's teats, the goat reared its legs and kicked him right in the temple. Now Double Dutch rambles a lot of * on Talkceltic. The end.
