Not taken him long to get found out. An incredible weak defender who only last as long as he did here due to his homegrown status

 

Early days but would be a very bad sign if he can't perform decently in a league that made Jack Hendry look like Maldini.

Not surprised he struggled in his first match. Hardly kicked a ball for us this season and aside from a 6 month loan at Morton, he's been at Celtic his whole career. Hopefully he'll adjust quickly and do well over there.

K.V. Mechelen want to sign Celtic’s Stephen Welsh on a permanent basis.


The central defender has just ended a successful loan with the Belgian Pro League outfit.


Welsh is due to return to the Scottish champions for pre-season.




Mechelen sporting director Dennis Henderickx has indicated that getting Welsh back to the club is a major priority.



He helped the Belgian’s into the European play-offs after he made the move in January.

His success with Mechelen hasn’t gone unnoticed with other Belgian and European clubs also keen a close eye on the situation.




The 25-year-old, who scored his first goal for Mechelen in his final appearance against FCV Dender at the weekend, has got a regular taste of first-team football he craved.

Welsh made 19 appearances for Mechelen and was keen to put a run of games together after spending large spells of the first half of the season on the bench or in the stands at Celtic.

Welsh, in a previous interview with the Daily Record, said: Welsh stated: “I have loved every minute of it.


I think it is the best thing I have done, it is almost like a refresh for six months to go and play football at a top level.”

The centre half still has two years left on his Celtic contract.

A lot will depend on where Brendan Rodgers’ sees Welsh in his plans.


Rodgers has Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty, Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki for the centre half positions just now.

 

2 mill and a sell on clause..

 

Good to see he's having some success. Always seemed to get injured anytime an opportunity appeared here.

 

Sell him. He's never making it here. Even as a backup.

 

Delighted to see him getting on well and I do believe that we should look to part ways permanently in the summer. Best for both parties.

Great deal for us would be anything near £2m with a large sell on. 30% at a minimum. Pretty sure I seen that he was one of the best performing centre backs in Belgium since January so it would be interesting to see how he does over a longer period of time. We know that during successful periods in Belgium, the bigger clubs will * up the smaller teams best players quickly and so there is definitely an opportunity to make a nice bit of profit even after he leaves.

All the best to him, though. Great Tim, lived his absolute dream that we can all admire. Tried his absolute best whenever he was called upon. Won't do a single piece of bashing on him. Hope he * kills it, wherever he goes.

 

Probably best for his career if he moves on. If we can get 2m and a decent sell on clause then that seems fair to me. Hopefully it all works out for him.
