I hoped he'd get a few more chances last season because he's one of our own, but obviously he just isn't up to the same level as those in front of him. Good luck to him if he goes, hope he does well.

We've already rejected offers from good Ligue 1 and Seria A clubs previously as well..

I feel like we're being trolled a bit. He's ok but nowhere near good enough for us. I honestly feel like he'd be crucified in these leagues..

Good luck to him when he goes. He needs to try it for the sake of his career..

If we get a couple of million for him, I'd be quite happy. Still think we should have loaned him out somewhere last year and raised his profile a bit. Think there is a very decent defender in there somewhere.

 

Honestly right now for me, it’d be * madness to get rid of him to keep Kobayashi instead. He is so much better than him, and it’s not even close.

If he was fit at the end of the season, we wouldn’t have needed to drop the back up CB we bought for our DM we’d bought (who fair enough played there before) but neither improved the defence like Welsh has shown.


I’m always baffled about how much criticism he gets, I like him. He’s good enough to step in and bring something to us, shouldn’t be first choice. Young Scottish (for the quota in Europe) homegrown, shown to stand up when we were poor, shown to do well when we were doing well, also brings an attitude on the pitch I find important at times instead of a nicey nicey way we have a lot of just now.


There’s a reason Ange bigged him up and knocked back decent money from Udinese and teams in a top 5 league in Serie A (several teams now) have looked at him and thought it was a good option with more potential.

And honestly, especially defensive wise, Serie A clubs in general know a defender.

Saying that, if I was him I’d go, consistent football at a high level and it’d improve his game massively. Hickey’s defending after a year over there has went to such a higher level. And Welsh is definitely a hard worker that wants to learn.

I've always thought he was not bad, I've seen worse in a celtic jersey. What he lacks in some departments he certainly always gave his all, the sort of player that would break a leg just to stop a goal, good enough or not that has to be commended.

 

What level of quality do you expect to hang around as 4th choice at Celtic?

 

Van dijk, CCV, Maldini, Cannavaro in that order please

 

Thought he was decent today. He's obviously not first choice at the moment but he's a reliable player. I dont have any worries with him starting games to be honest.

 

If brendan is thinking of going 3-5-2 at times during the season, I think he might keep Welsh.

 

He did OK but genuinely thought scales looked better.

 

Thought Scales was ok, but out of position a few times.

I think Welsh is actually a great player. Prob in the minority, but I expect if he leaves us he'll do really well.

 

Done absolutely nothing wrong today. Because he’s from the academy he gets a far harder time than most.a much better player than he gets credit for.
