He meant to take the player down illegally and that isn't cheating? By definition that's exactly what it is there's no 2 ways about it, going outwith the rules of football to win an unfair advantage is cheating.

Its called a professional foul and its widely accepted as a part of the game. Mick didnt cheat

So where is the line drawn then if a footballer with the sole intent of taking an opponent down isn't cheating but feigning contact by an opponent is?

A professional foul of the type commited by Mick is 100% cheating in my eyes, if it were Davie Weir on McGeady we'd want him banned for 5 games.

Mick's tackle was a disgrace. Thuggish. Unacceptable.

I couldnt care who tackled who, the fact that its a Celtic player has no bearing for me in the matter. Its not heart ruling the head.

At the moment, diving is in a different league to that sort of challenge. Referee's have no precedent with diving and only recently started booking players for what they feel is diving or attempts to con the referee be trying to make out that they've been fouled by a player.

Thats not the case with McManus's challenge, it happens every week in football and the rule about such a challenge is clear in the rule book. Mick knew it and still made the challenge, he didnt try to make out what he did other than exactly what it was. You didnt see him throw his hands up in the air Eduardo style, he felt it wasnt a goalscoring opportunity and was a yellow, the referee taught so too but the linesman pointed out how blatant he felt it was and it was upgraded.

To call a challenge like that assault or cheating, considering the context of the match, considering the reaction of all the players and the referee is farcical in my eyes and the people calling it such are people that never had time for McManus in the first place.

I've no motive to defend him or criticise, I'm judging the tackle based on what I've seen constantly through out the sport all my life and the stance that people, referee's and governing bodies have towards it. I've not seen widespread public or media condemnation of the player, its seems confined to people with agendas.

Yes, I have remembered several members previous comments about McManus and I wont apologise for my point of view and I'm done with talking about it.

    Hail Hail!

Where is this myth coming from that these tackles happen every week? I can't recall a similar tackle all season. I'm not saying it's not happened (just in case someone gives an example) but it's certainly not a weekly occurrence.

I believe that it's a reference to the professional foul, not Mick's actual "tackle".
I would agree that professional fouls happen every week but players are usually a bit smarter about it than Mick was.

I'm not talking about Celtic, I'm talking about football in general.
