if we signed Pele I'd be raging... he's well past it! :smiley-laughing002:

truth be told, i know we needed a striker weeks ago but if he's the right one we were better waiting to get him. I'll judge his value by what I see on the pitch

I can't agree with that. Our Euro games come so early that signing players to arrive one day and play their part in a Euro win over the champions of another country is a massive ask.

My firm belief is that Celtic should be signing players with a view to concreting them in the team for NEXT years tilt at the UCL.

Waka, Scepovic, Tonev et al I would like to see be a big part of our push next year.

Logic dictates that hey won't ALL make it, and the place to be finding that out (a la Berget) is not in your debut game in the CL a day after you've signed.

    Like Sanchez for Arsenal?

(remember take into account before you go on about his value etc, who the opposition were, who would easily beat us home and away btw).

Wish this signing could have been made a good while ago, who knows it might have made a difference.

Saying that, the way we set up defensively suggests maybe not :smiley-laughing002: :54:

I pretty much get excited when any new striker joins - I was excited about Pukki ffs, though there was a nagging doubt at the back of my mind. With this guy, the nag is there but less so.

What we thinking? This guy a better prospect than the others were - i'm comparing our expectations before all of our latest batch of strikers had kicked a ball, just seems this guy has more people convinced, or am i wrong?

I just want to be happy. Make me happy. Guarantee Stefan is the whiz.

Having said that if Pukki can find form along side this lad we could be in for a barrel of goals. We do need a regular finisher a real danger man in the box let's hope between them we can tick that box. Can he be registered for the Dundee game?

So how do you explain how teams sign players early all the time before the season or champions league games.

He has had 3 months to sign players, not having this he did not have time.

I hope he's a big success here, though I am perplexed as to why we couldn't get a striker signed before getting knocked out the CL. After the abject failure of the squad against Legia, a physical goalscorer should have been imperative.

He had to have time to work the squad out though mind.

He's not a manager who had good knowledge of Celtic before he came in, unlike basically any UK manager would have as they see us on TV all the time and probably the vast majority would know ex-Celtic players or managers too and keep somewhat in the loop of Celtic.

Deila had probably never heard of players like Ambrose, Matthews, Izaguirre, Brown, Kayal, Biton, Commons, Forrest, Stokes, Griffiths probably even Van Dijk and Forster. So theres no chance he could have come in and started signing * before he'd seen the players for a couple of month.

Any UK based manager could have come in and they'd have atleast known half our squad well. Deila'd be lucky to have known 3 players even remotely well - probably only really Lustig and Johansen would have been well known to him.

2 month ago Deila hadn't even trained the players once.

We all knew that the squad needed added too, our staff at the club must have knew this when Ronny came in, hence the reason why our manager left.

He came out saying he watched so many games of last season ect, he would have researched us well before taken the job.

So if the staff at the time could not tell him about our weakness and he could not identify it then that's very worrying.

Also John Park would have gave him a list if players scouted for each position so for me he has had time and just not acted on it and now we have got quick loan deals in.

100% he would have asked Johansen about the team and not buying he did. It know next to nothing about us.

Thank * we're signing someone now who's a key part of their team and not some reject.

Making assumptions based on other peoples opinions or judging from TV is how you make a * of yourself though.

You need to see for yourself, get to know the players personally and see players playing in the flesh to know for sure.

If Deila had signed 3/4 players by 1 month ago id have though whats he doing hes going to make a * of it.

YouTube clips tend to make players seem better than they are but I was frankly underwhelmed by his. I would imagine that is partly due to the fact a lot of his goals weren't televised.

But the main thing I picked up from it is that he is in the middle to receive crosses and is capable of scoring with his head. 2 areas where he is already ahead of stokes. So if he can grab 20 goals a year and play as a lone striker then it seems we may have found a replacement for Stokes.

So why have scouts then? He has made a * if it by not getting players in though.

Ronny chucked in Berget and he was * with Legia and Maribor and Gordon was not his signing plus he signed a player who was injured as well.

Scouts job is to identify or build profiles of future signings, so the club has big porfolios of future targets we know well that the manager can have a look at, not to sign players.

You canny get new signings in that soon though, until the manager knows the players. Unless for example there is no players in that position, then you obviously need a player right away. Like if we had no left-backs, he'd have probably signed a left-back weeks ago.

It would be the equivalent of a new head teacher being appointed at a school and sacking and hiring new teaching staff before he'd even got to know how well they're performing or what they are like.

We were never going to make signings right away this summer.
