Not really, earlier in the season and when he was playing a lot deeper most people were in agreement that he was having horrendous performances (as was most the team)

 

Exactly, feeling you have to justify what your watching as if it's a personal vendetta and your anti Celtic..

We all differ to an extent but for me anyone saying johansen was performing well for the first 2 and a half months of the season is talking out there * ..

 

It's clear now that Ronny was using him terribly (startling when he supposedly made him the player he is) and he looked worse Than he was but for me for a couple months at least he was the weak link outwith the dire ambrose ..
His passing, positioning etc were all woeful..

Thankfully since he's been.pushed forward that's all improved ten fold..
He's not *( i take that back) he was just playing * where he was..

Some of the abuse he got on here was a joke, you don't become a bad player overnight..

Very dangerous and typifies what Ronny seems to want in a player..

 

A goal, an assist and overall excellent work rate again yesterday. Easily MOTM in my opinion.

 

Sorry guys, I'm not feeling the love as much as everyone. At least maybe not in the creative sense.

Don't get me wrong - his rocket vs astra and amazing run and finish against the sheep were outstanding efforts, and there is little doubt he is giving his all.

He's our Petrov isn't he? Lung bursting runs into the box, tracking back and covering well. He's more of a water carrier (and I mean him no disrespect by that, every team needs good ones.)

But as our main attacking creative fulcrum? I'm not seeing it. He lacks the guile and finesse for that position. His ranged passing is suspect and on more than one occasion per match he just lumps it into an empty opposition penalty box for the keeper to gather.

I'm fine with him making runs from deep, making himself available and getting on the end of things, but we have not found the answer to our long awaited creative midfielder.

Commons is the best we have atm and we need someone in the short to medium term to replace him.

As much as Johansen brings qualities to the team, it shouldn't be in that role, he's not good enough imo (or to be more accurate, it's not suited to his attributes.)

He wasn't playing well though. I've defended him based on the abilities that I felt I could see throughout that time but he really wasn't playing well for a few months.

 

Hit a bit of form the last few weeks, really shines in the number 10 position.

I do agree some of Roy's Keane post though. Johansen, while he can pick out the odd spectacular pass, his overall passing leaves a lot to be desired at times. Every match he fails with a few simple 5-10 yard passes. It's really frustrating.

If he can sort that out then he will be excellent in that position. Much better option than Commons at the moment.

Obviously enjoying the freedom his new role is allowing him, and it's great to see him getting a few goals.

We had the reverse issue with Scot Brown years ago. Both seem to naturally have tonnes of energy, but lacked the discipline to hold a position and were guilty of being slack in possession from time to time.

He has the ability to play a killer pass, and an eye for goal so playing him further up the pitch seems like the natural move. It will be interesting to see what happens when Commons comes back.
