I'd take Stevie May over McKay. 12 on 20 this season, just turned 21, playing and scoring for Scotland under-21s, and offers something we don't really have up front. McKay, although with a good scoring record the last season and a bit, is 25, and not scored for national team at u-21 or first team level. I just see more potential with Stevie May.

Billy McKay is not good enough for Celtic and for the level the club aspires to be at. Being SPL quality isnt good enough.

Ryan Gauld is a talent but he's signed 2 contracts in a short period of time. DUTD are doing the right thing with him and he's smart enough to listen to them. When he's willing to move on it could be 2-3 years down the road and there will be a line of suitors for him

I would be for us signing Billy McKay in January. The guy is a goal machine, would probably only cost us £2M ( Finnbogason would cost £6M), and we don't know how Finnbogason would bed into the SPL, remember Brattback ?), McKay would hit the ground running here. It's a No Brainer to me.

What does that make Anthony Stokes then?

If there's a guy that has a much better strike-rate than him in the same league for the past 2 seasons with a worse team..

I would sign McKay he bangs them in each year for an average team. As for Gauld? I don't think he would get a game tbh

I don't think mackay would cost £1m let alone 2.

    He's earned a shot.

Just in from ICT Aberdeen game. McKay was outstanding, great build up play, holds up ball well and clinical in front of goal. Would be a good signing IMO.

I would have no issue signing Billy McKay my only worry is the expectations and pressure that come with playing for Celtic could rest heavily on him, no disrespect but its a big difference banging in goals for ICT then doing it for the champions of Scotland

Anyone remember Scott McDonald???? tore it up for the 'Well then did a more than decent job for us. A lot of guys on here are obsessed with celtic paying a million+ for a player in any league but ours, tbh we'd be much better signing players from our league for a pittance than taking a punt on some protege from Europe who takes 2 years to adapt and then we realise he never had what it takes to start with, I'd take Barry robson ahead of efrain Juarez any day for instance!

The thing about players like McKay is that they play for clubs who are afforded far more space than Celtic could ever dream of domestically. Success at a provincial club doesn't translate into success at Celtic or any other side that teams sit in against. McKay's a decent player but he couldn't lace Finnbogason's boots. Would
McKay be worth a shot? Yeah, probably, as he'd cost next to nothing but he's never going to be one of the top players in Europe. Players like Forster, Lustig, Matthews, Ambrose, Van Dijk, Wanyama & Hooper all are or will be some of the best players in their position outside of the very elite clubs. Gauld has the potential to be the best Scottish footballer in decades and I don't say that lightly. He certainly fits the bill. Players like Armstrong and Robertson could go on to be very good players at a club of Celtic's size. Armstrong reminds me a bit of Ledley actually. Robertson's got a lovely left foot on him and shadowing Izaguirre would do wonders for his development. Mackay-Steven, I think, is probably playing at the right level. I think he's far too lightweight for Celtic. The other boys would be more suited. I really like their directness as well.

Mckay might be afforded space much the same as is vernon, Collins, hasselbaink, luckassen but they do not score the goals so you're argument is flawed, if finbogasson sets us back 5mill then I'd rather take a punt on mckay than spend that kind of mulla. Success at a provincial club CAN mean success at a club like celtic, Scott McDonald for instance. As for Hooper i doubt he will ever be one of the best in his position outside the very elite clubs as you put it, he'd struggle to be better than Rhodes for instance who is most certainly not anywhere near elite club status! As for ambrose, is that a joke??? Gauld looks decent but let's not go over board it's still very very early in his career!

I really can't see a good reason why we aren't interested in players like this, they've already proven they can do the job in the spfl, so instead of buying and hoping; we should buy players who actually can do the job.
